Book Synopsis:

What makes The Metabolism Solution different? It will teach you how to safely harness the power of your metabolism to lose weight and melt belly fat fast. You will learn the right way to work out to boost your metabolism with the best part being seeing results the first day after your first 30-minute workout. You will learn how to address your weight loss and fitness issues from the inside out, allowing you to focus on what created the weight gain in the beginning and how to correct those issues. Do you love delicious food? You’ll adore Lisa Lynn’s 100 irresistibly delicious fat blasting recipes. The Metabolism Solution is the perfect roadmap for not only transforming your body, but changing your whole life.

My Review:

Lisa Lynn started out in her journey like many of us, a little over weight. And just like us she followed the fad diets, exercising almost continuously, and doing whatever seemed like the new fad. But just like us she didn’t see results. Then she started researching weight loss. Everything from what we really need to eat, supplements that can help, and what exercises will provide real weight loss. She was known as the personal trainer that got results when she was asked to train Martha Stewart. From there she has gone on to create her own supplement line and be a guest on the Dr. Oz show. Clearly she must know what she is doing.

The Metabolism Solution is Lisa’s routine put in book form. I love how everything is laid out in an easy to read and use format. But I recommend you read the entire book before you just jump to the recipes and exercise sections. There is a lot of information and research behind everything Lisa says. When reading the first part of the book on what Lisa was going through to try and lose weight I could see my own fight. I love how she tells you all about how almost everything you are doing is wrong, that you cannot eat nothing and exercise 8 hours a day and expect weight loss. How fad diets are just that and you may lose some weight but how it will come back twice as been when you stop following them.

From there you learn about the different supplements that Lisa has discovered and how they work in your body. Lisa has created her own line of supplements and protein powders. The best part of this section is how she says you can find similar products everywhere. But the question is about the quality you are buying. That if you are going to be using these supplements you better have high quality. Also, if you are like me and don’t have a lot of money to spare on supplements ones to start with.

From there you will learn about what exercises work best at helping to burn off fat and lose weight. Guess what, you don’t have to run 20 miles a day or lift weights like a body builder. You will learn how to exercise smarter not harder.

You will also learn what to eat, how to cook it, and in what portions. There is a science to your meals and when you should eat what. The best part is there are some great, easy recipes to get you started. But there is also a guide for you to follow for what to eat and when. I love how the hard part is done for you. No more panicking over what you are eating, no more over eating, and no more causing horrible craving and dreading 2 hours on the elliptical machine to burn those calories off.

I personally love the last portion of The Metabolism Solution. Along with proper exercising and eating you must also treat your spirit, the inner you. You will learn to love yourself; something that I admit can be tough when you have spent so many years talking down to yourself because of your size (speaking from personal experience). If you can’t learn to love yourself and a higher power how can you expect to be a better person physically and mentally? I think this is something that is skipped in almost everything you learn about losing weight and getting into shape. I also think that this is one of the missing links that we need when going about any change.

In the end, if you are looking to lose a couple pounds to several, learn exercises that are really beneficial, and learn about supplements and meals to help get you on your way, this is the book for you. I have not seen a book this well put together on losing weight. Stop the fad diets and the hours upon hours of exercise. Stop eating bad diet foods and start living a better life that will lead to a better you physically and mentally.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Author Interview with Lisa Lynn

1. Most people say eating healthy costs too much, does boosting your metabolism cost a fortune?

This couldn’t be further from the truth and I actually felt the same way when I first started losing weight, but what I never kept track of was eating out. All of the coffees I was drinking every day, my junk food binges (let’s call them what they really are) and once I did keep track, I was flabbergasted at how much I was spending and didn’t pay attention to! Not buying it? Try keeping an expense journal and see how much you’re spending on that glass of wine or eating out and you’ll be shocked to find out you can afford that trainer/coach after all—we all spend more than we think!

2. What do you say to people who say they hate fish and vegetables?

LOL. In person I ask how old they are! Not to be snippy, but because at some point we all have to start doing the right things for our health and everyone has at least 3-4 veggies they will eat so I suggest focusing on those and learning how to cook them in a way that they LOVE not just like. You should enjoy what you eat, but if we allow ourselves to make excuses as to why we have to keep eating junk food we will always struggle with our weight. I too hated veggies and when I began to lose weight I began to try new things and go out of my comfort zone. I felt like I was OFF plan but I was more on than ever! I still hate clams and steamers but now I crave veggies every day and I love new things like caviar and egg whites. (You’ll see this in my next book) My whole family is used to trying at least one new food item each week. Each one of us picks a new food out weekly and we all have to try it. If we don’t like it, we are allowed to spit it out!

3. Do you think Doctors agree with this “fast weight loss” approach?

Most doctors want to know what their patients are doing that is finally working. Not only do they lose weight, they also lower blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels not to mention joint and arthritis conditions also begin to ease up. What doctor wouldn’t love that! In fact, they usually end up calling to find out what the secret is! Doctors are happy to have their patients make healthy changes, and a lot of these people were already being told by their doctor that they would die if they didn’t do something about their weight and health. Many of them had already had gastric bypass surgery or bariatric surgery and almost always are plagued with extremely slow metabolisms so nothing else worked until they tried boosting their metabolism with thermogenic eating combined with supplements and light exercise. What’s not to like?

4. Does everyone lose 1 pound a day?

YES! If they follow the plan everyone loses 1 pound a day every day until they reach goal weight. The only people who don’t lose are the ones who don’t do what they are supposed to. If you do it, it works! This is a program that works no matter how old you are or how sluggish your metabolism is. The only thing keeping anyone from losing weight is excuses. It’s good for everyone who wants to lose weight.

5. For whom is this “Metabolic Boosting” type of diet particularly good?

A metabolic boosting diet is good for anyone who needs or wants to lose weight. It’s for the person who has tried every diet on the planet, yet no matter what they did, they still couldn’t lose weight. It’s also very good for pre-diabetic people or those who suffer with syndrome X or metabolic resistance, not to mention people who exercise and don’t see results. Of course it’s also good for people with thyroid conditions and especially females who are over 35—-due to hormonal changes that make losing weight very hard.

6. Who shouldn’t eat like this?

Everyone can benefit from eating thermogenically; even your dog can be healthier! If you really can’t put weight on I suggest adding more protein in the form of chicken, and carbs such as quinoa, and fats like avocados and almonds to your diet so you stay healthy and keep weight on.  You can’t find a healthier diet!

7. Does everyone feel better after losing weight this way? What are the benefit’s?

Yes. Not only does everyone feel better, they say they felt better after drinking the first metabolic boosting protein shake and that they felt better than they have ever felt. Cravings disappeared and they could taste food for the first time in their life.

8. What are you doing if you’re not writing a book or on TV?

Research, working out with friends, shopping and playing with my dogs!

9. Being a Mom is hard enough and I see you have 2 kids (ages 14 and 20) and 4 dogs. How do you get it all done and still find time to write such a comprehensive book?

Scheduling, planning and getting up early before anyone else is up. I get a lot more work done in the morning so it’s worth going to bed early.

10. Would you write a book again?

I never thought I’d say this, but yes I would write a book again. I feel like everyone should. It’s amazing how many lives you can change by sharing your story! We all have one. I’m already working on

my third book.

Behind the Stars

By Leigh T. Moore

Prentiss Puckett is certain of three things:
-Graduation is two weeks away.
-Summer only gets hotter in south Mississippi.
-She’s getting a job with air-conditioning.

She did not expect to be kidnapped walking to work.
And she never expected to become a hero.

Red Dawn meets LOST in this action-adventure/paranormal romance from Amazon bestselling author Leigh Talbert Moore.

The guards moved among us, placing dentist-office Dixie cups of what looked like water in front of everyone. A separate guard came to where I sat on the floor, clutching my knees. She lightly took my arm.
“Please return to the table.” Her voice was smooth. “You’ve had a shock. Have some water.”
I wasn’t about to drink anything they gave us. It was Day One all over again, only this time, it was Guyana. We were all being served the Kool-Aid. Next stop, mass graves.
Stupidly, my friends and fellow prisoners had no such qualms. Didn’t anybody watch the History channel? I stared as they all took shaky sips without hesitation.
“Just take a small sip.” The female guard was still with me. “It’ll calm you.”
My throat constricted. My whole body was on revolt. Shaking my head, I didn’t meet her eyes. I only stared at the white cup of water. Braxton was at my side, and he drained his. What the hell made him do that? Did he want to die?
Seconds ticked past and nothing happened. Nobody passed out. Nobody did anything strange—except forget what we’d just witnessed here. Braxton picked up his fork to finish his lunch. They all did. Like one of us had not just been taken out “swiftly and finally.”
Only he had, and I was reeling from the shock.

* * *

“Hearing that story makes me wish I could have been the one to protect you,” he said.
“I don’t need your protection,” I sniffed. “I’m little, but I can take care of myself.”
“Everyone needs help. Sometimes.” He reached up and slid the hair back from his face exposing the scar on his cheek.
I didn’t know how to answer that. I still didn’t know how he’d gotten those scars, but more than that, I didn’t know who I wanted protecting me now.
I stepped through the fence. “I guess this is good-night,” I whispered.
“Sleep well, doctor.”
I shook my head and sneaked past the cabins across the dark yard and into the dormitory. Once inside I stood for several minutes with my face pressed against the doorjamb.
Why was this happening? I wasn’t this kind of person. Other girls got their feelings all mixed up over boys, but I didn’t. That question had been settled in my mind years ago, and yet here I was acting like a starry-eyed little twit. I was failing in my job to rescue us. Everyone was counting on me, and here I was useless, fighting this battle with myself. I had to get it together. I had to get myself back on track, for all of us.

My Review for Behind the Stars The Complete Series

Prentiss is in the last year of high school. She has her life planned out for her, graduate, become a veterinary, marry Jackson the love of her life, and live the rest of her life on a farm. After her broken home with her mother’s death, her father’s drunkenness, and her brother’s fire and brimstone preaching, she decides that is the best form of stability.

But one day she is kidnapped and waked up with several other kids her age in a strange camp. It resembles something like a summer camp. The exception is they are fed on a prison schedule, the boys go do heavy lifting and the girls are divided up to tend crops or take care of cows. Prentiss decides that she is going to do whatever it takes to get away to Jackson, and then he will come up with a plan to save everyone.

Because of her knowledge of cows she gets assigned to the barn and there she meets Cato the leader and her brother Gallatin. Something is going on and Prentiss decides to try and get close to Gallatin to figure out what is going on and find some way to escape. But things don’t go as planned for her.

She gets closer to Gallatin but further away from her plans. But when something happens to a close friend and someone is found looking for the missing people things are going to go in an unexpected direction for Prentiss. The question is if she is strong enough to stay the course laid out in front of her.

This is one of the best series I have read in a long time. I started reading each episode but when I finally got the full book I couldn’t put it down. Prentiss is so strong even though she doesn’t really think she is and it is great following her and having her realize how special she really is. Jackson is just a jerk and I think gets off too easy at the end of the book. And Gallatin, I loved watching him go from a cold person to so loving.

This is a great young adult series that everyone will like. The story will suck you in and you won’t be getting any sleep until you are done reading it.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

The Schwarzschild Radius

I am happy to be part of The Schwarzschild Radius Tour. This is an amazing book.

Excerpt from Goodreads

Rachel, an 18-year-old Columbia University student, descends into the netherworld of runaways and predators to find her sister, Olivia, who has suddenly disappeared.

After getting a job in a strip joint where Olivia worked, then doing private shows in the homes of rich clients, Rachel discovers that Olivia has been abducted by a killer who auctions the deaths of young girls in an eBay of agony.

When she finds Olivia, Rachel becomes the killer’s next target.

About Gustavo Florentin

Gustavo Florentin was born in Queens, New York and received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Polytechnic University of New York. He spent a decade in the defense industry working on the F-14 fighter jet and classified electronics projects. After the fall of the Soviet Union, many thought America wouldn’t need weapons anymore, so while others waited for the peace dividend, he moved on to the financial sector in New York where he is currently a network engineer. His passions include violin, travel to exotic places and exploring worldwide conspiracies. He lives in New Jersey where he is working on his third novel. (From Amazon)

Interview with Gustavo Florentin

Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

GF: Yes, forget the advice about “Write what you know.” With the internet, you can sound like an expert in any field in two hours. I say, “Write what you want.” Write what fills you with passion, because you will need that motivation to see you through the writing process to the end. And it’s a long road. Also, you must write all the time. You must think like a writer, which means you’re always on the look out for good dialogue or a good topic to write about as you go through your day. Always relate your experiences, especially bad ones, back to writing. This is the mark of a real writer. And, of course, never give up. That goes without saying.

Q: Can you tell us about your works in progress?

GF: Yes, I’m writing a conspiracy political thriller. It’s a far cry from The Schwarzschild Radius, and the good news is that my protagonist is ex-Special Forces which makes a lot of things easier, like prevailing over the bad guys. I needed a main character with special forces experience and lo and behold, Detective McKenna of the Schwarzschild Radius fit the bill to a T. It saved me the trouble of creating a new protagonist.

Q:How did you do research for your book?

GF: I researched alot of it on the web but I also read books on important features in the story, such as the abandoned subway tunnels in New York and the people who live in them. Google Earth also helped to set the locations of the scenes.

Q: Which was the hardest character to write? The easiest?

GF: Without a doubt, Rachel was initially the hardest character to write. She’s an eighteen year old girl and I’m a middle-age man. I had to rely on my observation. But once I got the hang of it and I knew her character, I could do it second nature. I lived with her for years in my mind, so she couldn’t stay a stranger all that time.

Q: Do you ever get writer’s block? What helps you overcome it?

GF:. I never get writer’s block. I always keep a list of a dozen or so projects under development, so I always have something I can work on whether it’s a short story or a screenplay or novel.

Q: What genre do you write and why?

GF: I write thrillers. I like the discipline it takes to put a character in danger and get him out of it without cliches, or a cavalry. That’s the pleasure and at the same time, the challenge.

Q: What is the last great book you’ve read?

GF: The last great book I read was THe Snow Leopard by Peter Mathiessen. It’s the kind of book I’d like to write one day, once I’m an established writer. It was at once a travel book and an exploration of spirituality, geography, history. Enthralling.

My Review

We start this story with a young lady, the Webmaster, and three men that crave torture and murder. The young lady is there to be tortured depending on the highest bidder. Various things will be done to her until the Webmaster decides to killer her for the highest bid.

Rachel is looking for her sister Olivia. Olivia has disappeared and no one has a lead so Rachel takes it upon herself to find her sister. But she doesn’t know what her sister got herself into. At first she is shocked but then decides to go down the rabbit hole to find Olivia no matter whatever she finds. When the police realize where Rachel has gone, and tortured girl’s bodies start appearing it become a race to figure out where Rachel and Olivia have gone before they end up like some many girls.

This book hooked me from the start. It’s very gruesome and violet but written in a way that you can see it happening in the world today. I was impressed with Rachel following her sister through everything just to find her. This story is so involved from the things that people will do to others.

This is a great, must read story. It’s not an easy read but one that I think more people should read; it is definitely an eye opener. I had a hard time putting it down.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Dizzy Miss Lizzy

Dizzy Miss Lizzie by RM Clark

5 stars

(Excerpt from Goodreads) Thirteen-year-old Kasey Madrid finally has the freedom she’s always wanted. Instead of putting up with sitters or camps, she can spend the summer home alone in their ‘new’ house. Never mind that the house is a creepy old place built in the nineteenth century. The creep factor skyrockets when Kasey meets a nineteenth-century girl named Lizzie Bellows in the basement. It takes some time for Lizzie to convince Kasey she’s not a ghost, though neither girl understands why they can see each other when they live 120 years apart.

The differences in their worlds doesn’t stop the two from becoming fast friends. Lizzie’s life isn’t easy, though. In her time, her parents died in a fire many believe Lizzie started herself. As the summer passes and Kasey learns more about her own past, she is shocked to discover Lizzie is part of a terrible Madrid family secret. It’s up to Kasey to go back to Lizzie’s world to unlock the secret and clear Lizzie’s name.

Kasey’s family has just moved into a new house. She is not really that impressed until she learns that a young girl lived in the same house years earlier and that she killed her parents in a fire. When she meets Lizzy in her basement, Kasey thinks that there has to be more to the story and starts researching it.

But there is more than just ghosts of a girl accused of murdering her parents, there is a curse and a terrible family history that is going to make Kasey fight harder to expose the truth. Time is running out for Kasey to find some proof that Lizzy is innocent and save her father too.

This is a really great story. Kasey is pretty mature and very focused on figuring out what happened with Lizzy and her parents. I love the twist with her family which was unexpected but fit in perfectly.

This is a great young adult story that anyone will like. Make sure to add it to your list. It’s one book that you don’t want to miss.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

The best way to start any day is with a good, filling breakfast. Unfortunately it is too easy to toss some cold cereal in a bowl or go through the drive thru to pick up something. The worst part is within one hour you are hungry again, even after eating more calories than you should have in one day.

Well, Delicious Mornings is going to change that. This is a cookbook with a lot of homemade recipes that are quick and easy to make and very filling. There are so many ideas from muffins, pancakes, egg dishes, and casseroles. There are so many recipes that you can make something different every day for a long time. There will be no more boring, same thing over and over for breakfast any more or slaving over the stove for hours in the morning.

I admit one of my goals at the start of the year was to stop eating fast food as much. But I don’t have a lot of time to make breakfast. I was so excited to get this book and trying the recipes. They are so easy that I can make them up during the weekend and store them in the refrigerator or freezer. Then I just grab them on the go and I have a good breakfast without going to the drive thru.

It is true; breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Just making myself healthy meals I all ready feel better. I’m full longer and don’t seem to be snacking an hour after I eat. Just that fact is a great reason to get this book. I love how I can either have cinnamon rolls or tarts just depending on my tastes.

This is a great cookbook that you need to add to your collection. I am definitely happy that I have a copy.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

(Excerpt from Goodreads) Josie, responsible beyond her age, is helpful around the house, takes good care of her younger sister, and always follows the rules.

This is not enough to prevent her from being abducted by a madman. Making it her mission to fight back, she gives everything she has to outsmart her abductor.

With the help of an unexpected ally, she learns how to keep herself alive long enough to come up with a plan. But, will the plan work?

Will she die at the hands of her captor? And if she survives, will she make it back to her family?

Josie has just turned 13 and things seem to be going well. She is friends with the popular girl in school, things are going well for her at home, and then she is kidnapped. This is not one of the ransom kidnappings, this is the child abuse, sex slave kind of kidnapping. With the help of another victim she keeps focusing on how to get out of her situation.

This is a very serious topic and I do think that it was handled well but having said that, there are parts that are very violent and will shock readers. Josie is supposed to be a good girl that follows the rules but gets into a truck and ends up kidnapped. You would think that she was told never to do that, I mean I would have that drilled into my kid’s heads.

Anyway, I have to say for 13 she was mature and I am impressed how she keeps fighting instead of breaking down after the abuse. I have to say that I still think there is something funny between her father and her step father. Something still bothers me beyond the obvious.

This is a pretty twisted thriller. I can see where it wouldn’t be for everyone. I think it is a little lacking. I read it but it’s not one that really sticks in my mind.

Skolthan by Damaris West

3 stars

(Excerpt from Amazon) A truly chilling tale of the paranormal, diabolic witchcraft and malevolence.

From the primitive cottage where she lives a hermit-like existence, Hilda can reach a tidal island which gives her access to a beautiful world, a fragment of the one-time Garden of Eden.

She is almost unique in possessing the sought-after gift of being able to pass through to this other world, but the very same gift puts her in danger from malevolent forces that seek to use the island’s tremendous power to secure their own evil domination.

In a desperate bid to rescue a young mother and her yet unborn child, the intended victims of a horrific ritual with cosmic implications, Hilda and her closest friends must outwit a charismatic warlock (Hilda’s former husband) and the arch-witch Alice, embodiment of evil, who treacherously masquerades as a midwife.

Their mission culminates in an heroic act which threatens to throw them all over the edge and into the same evil world which they are so anxious to destroy. Nonetheless, good prevails, but at a truly terrible price …

Hilda lives by herself and is very happy about it. She is a witch and likes to keep to herself away from the neighbors that distance themselves from her. We start by following her around her place as she cleans for her daughters stay. As she goes about her chores we learn about her daughter and her husband.

Then she discovers a young woman that needs help and steps up to help her. But there are evil plans for this young woman and her child, plans that include her warlock husband and her little island.

I admit that I had a bit of a hard time getting into the story. It seems a bit dry as you follow Hilda around cleaning, reminiscing, and talking to herself. But when things start going you quickly get wrapped up in the story. I love the description, I felt right there. I also like the witch/paranormal aspect. It has a more natural and realistic feel for Hilda’s magic. Something I would consider a true witch.

This is a really good book and one that I recommend you try. This is one book that slipped through my TBR pile and it was so good that I regret not reading it sooner.

I received this book ages ago in exchange for an honest review.

A Rant of Ravens by Christine Goff

4 stars

Rachel’s world comes crashing down on her when she finds her husband in bed with another woman. Her Aunt Miriam suggests to Rachel to come out to the Bird Haven in Colorado to clear her head of the divorce. The Bird Haven helps rehabilitate raptors and is a place for bird watchers.

When a special sparrow is spotted at the Bird Haven, people come in search of it. Rachel then stumbles upon a dead body. Then Miriam goes missing along with three birds. It’s looking like Miriam may be the killer and it’s time or Rachel to figure out what is going on.

This is a cute little mystery. If you don’t know anything about bird watching be prepared, you soon will. I like how it is presented without dragging down the story. You will also stumble into the exotic bird trade and people that are willing to do whatever it takes to get there hands on a rare bird. I loved the mystery and how it slowly unfolded.

This is a really great cozy mystery. This is Astor + Blue launching The Birdwatcher’s Mystery series. Make sure to check it out if you like mysteries and add the other books to your list too.
