Anni Moon & The Elemental Artifact by Melanie Abed
5 stars
(Excerpt from Goodreads) Anni doesn’t know about Elementals, Funk, Zephyrs, excited talking Bat-Rat creatures, and, least of all, Dragons. All that changes when her best friend, Lexi, is kidnapped and forces beyond Anni’s control trap her on a hidden, floating island in the Elemental world.
In a race against time, Anni sets out to save her friend. Along the way she finds allies among the Elementals, but she is also presented with a choice, one that might help save Lexi. If Anni agrees to an ancient, open-ended contract, will her sacrifice cost her more than she’s bargained for? Or will it land her in the middle of an age-old war between the humans, the Elementals, and the dreaded Fectus?
Anni and Lexi live at Waterstone Academy, which seems like a normal school for children. But things have been happening. Both have lost their caregivers under mysterious events. And now the school is going to be purchased and things are getting worse. When the current headmistress disappears like the last one, things start getting exciting.
Anni and Lexi get separated and Anni gets thrust into a new world of Elementals. But Lexi has some knowledge and is stuck in a far worse adventure. Between the two girls they have to fight the funk that is affecting everyone. But that is just the tip of the iceberg for what the girls are about to face.
Anni is a human that just plugs along in school. She is supposed to help out in the kitchen and seems to always be in trouble. Lexi has more knowledge of what is really going on but was told to keep it secret from Anni. I love the connection between the girl and the loyalty. Anni is very single minded in finding and protecting Lexi. And although she is thrown into a strange new world she just keeps plugging along.
This is a great children’s adventure that I think everyone will like. Make sure to add it to your list.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
