Symbiosis (Scintillate – 2) by Karen Tjebben
5 stars
(Excerpt from Goodreads) A switch is flipped the night of the dance. Something awakens within Kate Archer that alters her relationship with Nick and Alex. Haunting visions of the past begin to plague her. In an effort to maintain harmony within her relationships, she tries to hide the knowledge the dreams reveal to her. Eventually, when the façade that she’s so carefully crafted begins to unravel, Kate realizes that the past has no boundaries, and it has stained her soul. It is then that the truth finally sets her free.
Kate is starting to learn more about her powers, the Asteri, and the Nephilim. But she is starting to dream more and more about Nick and Alex’s past. She feels like an intruder to their past and makes her see them both in a different light. Kate is having a hard time processing the dreams and tries to keep acting normal. But with the Nephilim still trying to kill her and coming into her full power things are not going to be easy for Kate.
I liked Scintillate but I admit that there were a lot of things going on that are left unexplained. No need to worry, these things are explained in Symbiosis. I loved watching Kate come into her powers and going from that naïve little girl to someone that could hold her own. I also liked how much more depth to Nick and Alex. I admit that I’m not a fan of love triangles but the added background gave this a fresh twist to the normal love triangle conflicts.
I recommend reading Scintillate before Symbosis. You will have more background to the story and will enjoy Symbiosis more. I’m really liking how this story is progressing and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.
If you like young adult paranormal stories, I recommend add this to your reading list.

I received this book for free from Reading Addiction Virtual Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.
I am thrilled that you enjoyed SYMBIOSIS! I had a blast writing it and am excited to share a little more with you. The cover image is loaded with information. The background setting is actually Jordan Lake (a major setting in the book). There are two butterflies on the cover. In the reflection on the water, the butterfly that is the blue butterfly was on SCINTILLATE’s cover. That butterfly represents Kate and her transition. The white/black butterfly appears to be emerging from the blue butterfly. This butterfly represents Sarah. The body of the white/black body has 2 bows with an arrow in the middle. I used bows and an arrow for this butterfly because Sarah is an archer. I am busily working on the final book in the series. Please check out my Pinterest sight for a little insight into SYNCHRONICITY. I have a board with pictures that help inspire me as I write.
Thank you for the opportunity to review Symbiosis. It’s amazing how I find the cover beautiful but with your description it makes it amazing. I will definitely check out your Pinterest site.
Thank you! Look forward to working with you in the future.
