Wiley’s Grocery by S.B. Boughton
(Excerpt from Goodreads) Wiley’s Grocery: a world where groceries and grudges never end. But should they? Meet Ky, Chad, Stephaney, and Vernon as they struggle with the day-to-day life of working at Wiley’s Grocery. It is a store with a paranoid manager that is attached to his favorite jacket, a cowboy that struggles with his bladder, and a devil’s advocate who manipulates others to reach his goal in the end. Time away from the store isn’t even safe as Stephaney deals with the torment from a stalker on vacation, and Vernon is forced to confront a fame-obsessed boxer that robbed him. Like all workplaces, the stories never truly meet their end. Witness a time period where the moments at Wiley’s Grocery reach the peak of its weirdness.
4 stars
This book is a collection of six stories that revolve around Wiley’s Grocery store. You will learn about a special jacket, an adventure staying at a hostel, a challenge to get employees to get along, bladder problems, a new playground being tested out, and a boxer.
Wiley’s Grocery reminds me of working at Wal-Mart. It’s a job, not very exciting, and most of the employees would rather be elsewhere. But things happen both at the store and outside of it. This book is a little insight to those employees and things that happen to them.
It is an interesting collection of stories. Since I have work jobs similar to this I can understand of the employees feel. But there is humor added in that just makes the stories more than just trudging away at a boring job.
I do link this book. The stories are short and would be a good read for a break. It will make your boring day just a little bit brighter.
