Finders Keepers

Finders Keepers by Shelley Tougas

(Excerpt from Goodreads) From the author of The Graham Cracker Plot, a story about two friends playing finders keepers for the missing loot of Al Capone.

Christa spends every summer at the most awesome place in the whole world: her family’s cabin on Whitefish Lake in Wisconsin. Only her dad recently lost his job and her parents have decided to sell the cabin. But not if Christa can help it. Everyone knows there is Al Capone blood money hidden somewhere in Whitefish Lake, and her friend Alex’s cranky grandpa might have the key to finding it. Grumpa says the loot is gone, or worse—cursed!—but Christa knows better. If she finds it, she can keep it and save her family and their beloved cabin.

My Review

5 stars

Christa’s family has been spending every summer at their cabin on Whitefish Lake. Unfortunately her father has lost his job and to make ends meet they decide to sell the cabin. Christa doesn’t want this to happen. She learns of the story of Al Capone’s missing money and with the help of her friends and her grandpa goes on the hunt for the missing money.

This is a great story. Christa is such a strong character and doesn’t fit into the normal image of a 10-11 year old girl. She is strong willed and very determined. I loved the adventures she gets into. I like how the story involves real life situations like her father losing his job and how the family is adapting.

This is a great mid-grade story that any age will like. There is a great adventure with lots of imagination.

I have been lucky enough to read the first book in The Battle for Darracia series. Yes, I admit that I’m really slow in finishing the series even though it was really good. Here is my review for Schism. Now all three books are together. Make sure to get your copy today at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Goodreads.

Interview with Michael Phillip Cash and V’sair from “The Battle for Darracia”

Michael Phillip Cash (MPC): Welcome to another fun and exciting interview with V’sair from the Battle of Darracia saga! Hello V’sair!

V’sair (V): Hello.

MPC: Tell me, what’s it like being a Prince.

V: Emotional.

MPC: Care to elaborate?

V: My mom is not from my home planet, Darracia.  She is a Plantan. My father is pure Darracian, born in a long-line of warriors.

MPC: That’s fascinating.

V: It’s really not. It’s boring. Plus, I’m in half-breed.

MPC: So, nothing wrong with that.

V: Everything is wrong with that. I don’t know who I am. Am I a strong warrior? Look at these arms!  I can barely lift two Yonada of Ramdam Crystals.

MPC: What are Ramdam Chrystals?

V: They are the element that my people mine for. It keeps our kingdom floating in the sky.

MPC: Wow!  That’s incredible.

V: Eh.

MPC: What is your world like?

V: It’s boring. I’m coming into my own. I just don’t know what that is yet.

MPC: Are you close with your parents?

V: Yes and no. My dad wants me to be strong and brutish like him. My mom wants to stimulate my intellect.

MPC: How does she do that?

V: By setting me up with her handmaiden Tulani.

MPC: Who is this Tulani?

V: She’s…beautiful. She is always staring at me. Likewise, I stare at her.

MPC: Marriage?

V: My people do not mix with the Quyroo?

MPC: A who?

V: Quyroo. They are the tree dwellers. They scrounge in the dirt below our kingdom. According to my father, they want a seat on the Moon Council. That’s where everyone has a voice. A say in our planet Darracia.

MPC: Sounds like a peaceful planet.

V: Was a peaceful planet.

MPC: What changed?

V: My uncle Staf Nuen wants to supplant my father and me.  Such is life as a prince. You can’t even trust your own family.

MPC: What does he do?

V: He implements a coup de tat against my family, our government. He drives us all out of our kingdom, and it’s up to Tulani, her grandmother Bobbien, my stepbrother Zayden, and my mother Reminda to take back Darracia.

MPC: It really sounds like a huge battle.

V: Hence the title, The Battle for Darracia.

MPC: How did you come up with the name Darracia?

V: Darracia is really an inversion of Arcadia. Arcadia means a peaceful utopia.  We were once a very calm planet, until the greed of my uncle overtook the lands.

MPC: Sounds like Star Wars.

V: Without the Force.

MPC: Do you like Star Wars?

V: Huge fan.

MPC: Well, thank you for joining me today V’sair. Our readers can find out if the Battle for Darracia ends well or bad for our guest.

The Ninth Chosen

The Ninth Chosen (The Shadow Prison – 1) by K.A. Parkinson

(Excerpt from Goodreads) Sixteen-year-old Macy is not your average teenager—she’s a member of the Chosen, an elite group of gifted and magically talented children responsible for protecting humans from the monsters of the Hidden race. But when the Shard of the Ninth Chosen arrives at her Watcher’s door with the deadly Shadow Wraiths in hot pursuit, her world is shaken. The Ninth is to lead the Final Battle against the evil forces of the Dark. And when that Ninth turns out to be Tolen Parks, a clueless seventeen-year-old who has no idea he’s anything other than a freak, she figures the world is a gonner. The two of them are swept down a dangerous path that tests everything that Macy is . . . and brings out everything that Tolen can be. Amidst monsters and Radia Warriors, the pair must discover who they really are and face the heart of darkness in order to find victory . . . and their destinies.

My Review

4 stars

In our world, there is a battle between Light and Darkness. It is almost time to choose the last person of power for the end battle. We start the story with Macy, a teenage girl with powers and her Watcher, Bastian. The creatures of the dark have found them and are coming with the intent to kill. But just before they strike, Bastian tells Macy that the ninth person has been chosen and they have to find him. Barely escaping, they go on the hunt for Tolen Parks.

Tolan has a special background and amazing powers that he knows nothing about. His mother has been shielding him and has now gotten run down enough to not be able to protect him by herself. Bastain and Macy come to introduce him to his heritage. But it’s not going to be a happy gathering. The agents of the Dark are intent on capturing Tolen for their side of the war. Now it’s up to Macy and Bastian to keep him safe and get him trained for war.

I loved this book. There was great action and a well thought out story. I loved how everything was explained, as Tolen learned so did you plus the index in back was a help. Tolen thinks he is nothing more than the town freak then learns there is more to him than he thought. Macy was a bit of a pain but as you went along you could understand why.

If you like the paranormal, thriller young adult books you will love this book. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Keeper of the Last.
