The Z Tailgate: The Sequel to the Burning Z by Clive Riddle
(Excerpt from Goodreads) Zombies go to a Raider tailgate and bleed silver and black. The Z Tailgate is the sequel to the Burning Z. In the Burning Z, Zombies went to Burning Man. The sequel begins back in the Black Rock Desert before zombies invade a cruise ship and a tailgate party. In The Z Tailgate, the Burning Man site is now an internment camp for zombies and our heroes, Alan Gorman, Conner and Bruce, consult with the Department of Homeland Security, who oversee zombie affairs. Alan and Conner are sent to a cruise ship to investigate a possible new zombie outbreak. Bruce and Cassie – Conner’s girlfriend – are kidnapped along with a truckload of zombies by Chinese-backed henchmen intending to stow away some Zs to China. The zombie truck becomes the subject of a manhunt, ultimately hiding out in the Oakland Coliseum parking lot, where a football game is about to take place. The zombies escape and invade the tailgate parties, leading to a climatic battle in the Coliseum parking lot.

My Review
5 stars
We start the story in the Black Rock Desert where people from the Burning Man even have turned into zombies and have been gathered. Alan Gorman was one of the first people around when the zombies started and he is under contract from Homeland Security. Then we have Bruce and Cassie that are trying to find answers about the zombies. Cassie was part of Burning Man with her friend Tess when Tess was attacked except there is something different about Tess compared to the other zombies. And finally we have Quon Li, a spy for China that is planning on over powering a load of zombies to get them to China for testing.
I loved this book from the start. I live in Reno, NV and have the experience of dealing with Burning Man and the Burners once a year. When I started reading and learned that the zombies started in Black Rock I was just laughing. It was great following along with local places.
The zombies are not typical zombies; you have a bunch of scientists that don’t really understand them, the government official calling the general public, and a foreign spy trying to sneak zombies into China for testing. What could go wrong? This is a great story that kept me turning the pages to see what happens next. I loved the new twist on the zombies; it’s a great twist from the standard flesh eating corpses. Plus what can be better than adding in the Raiders tailgate party gone wrong?
I have not read any of the other books by Clive Riddle but I will definitely be checking them out. If you are looking for a zombie story with a twist I recommend you check out The Z Tailgate.
