Surviving Valencia by [Tierney-Bedord, Holly]

Surviving Valencia

A car accident robs the Loden Family of twins Van and Valencia shortly after they start college. Charmed, bright, and beautiful, they held their family together and elevated the Lodens to greatness. In their loss, a shadow is cast upon the family, particularly on the remaining child, who lacks the easy grace and popularity her older siblings took for granted.

As an adult, her life begins to turn from mediocre to amazing when she is saved by cool, artistic Adrian. The kind of happiness once reserved only for others is finally hers, until pieces of the past begin ruining what seems to be a perfect life.

Surviving Valencia will be FREE on Amazon from August 17 to 21. Get your copy here.

Right Under Your Nose: A Christmas Story by [Tierney-Bedord, Holly]

Right Under Your Nose

This is a novella length book.

Ariadne Daniels seems to have it all: A successful career as a pastry chef, a Victorian home in a trendy neighborhood, and her dedicated boyfriend Scott who she’s been with for years.

Her life is great until the day she stops by Scott’s apartment to surprise him and finds out that he’s not so dedicated to her after all. Shocked and too depressed to celebrate, she decides to skip Christmas. Her best friend Jess does his part to convince her otherwise, but Ariadne’s determined to wallow in her misery, at least until spring.

Life has other plans for her, however. Some helpful meddling from a new friend at a local bookstore, along with some questionable behavior on the part of Jess’s girlfriend, turn Ariadne’s ho-hum holiday plans on their head.

Right Under Your Nose will be FREE on Amazon from August 17 to 21. Get your copy here.

The Apostates Book Two: Remnants by Lars Teeney

After the fall of the ruling Regime of New Megiddo, the John W. Greta Sanchez, a former Apostate resistance commander who had sought refuge in West Europa is haunted by the nuclear annihilation of the old capital, New Megiddo City. In order to atone for her complicity in the destruction, she resolves to return to America to stop a new war. Greta sets out to track down her old comrades to reform the Apostates to meet new threats.

Book

My Review

5 stars

Following the Apostates win, we see a country left in chaos. If you remove a super power and you don’t have another one to fill in the void you will have a collapse. This is where we come into book two. Several individuals, states, countries and such are trying to take over what New Megiddo was controlling. Greta is living in Europe and is haunted by the chaos from the rebellion. She returns to America to try and gather her Apostate companions to fight those that are trying to take over what is left after the collapse.

Greta is has decided to return to what is left after the regimes collapse. She is planning on tracking down the other rebels and getting prepared to fight for what is left. But this book also explores the different characters pasts. Evan is looking into his past and hoe he became an orphan. Consuela is trying to find her family and hopes to be left alone. Craig, Evan’s mentor, is trying to live with his time fighting the Chinese in Alaska and being a POW. Then we have Simon who is meeting with the Pope Invictus to try and get his neural net system in Europe.

I loved delving into the different players backgrounds. It adds a richness to the story but also makes you more understanding of what is driving them. I love that Greta is determined to fix the problems caused by ending the regimes collapse. I can’t wait to see how this series is going to end. I hope and pray for the best but I have a feeling that things are not going to be an easy journey.

The Agreement (Shadow Tales – 3) by James Drummond

When a colleague goes missing during a mission, Toby and Jack head to the Scottish Highlands to track her down. They have a general idea of where to look, but no idea of the danger that awaits them. Jack’s lifelong nemesis is expecting their visit, and the over three-hundred-year-old vampire has a surprise waiting.

The search-and-rescue job soon turns onto a fight for survival, and Toby’s recently inherited warlock powers come in especially useful as the hunters become the hunted. Barely able to save themselves, Toby and Jack are at a complete loss for how to help the small Scottish town of Loubcroy when they come to truly appreciate the horrific agreement the wicked vampire has forged with its residents.

The hunters call on familiar friends who quickly come to their aid as they face their most formidable threat yet. It turns out being a battle that leaves Toby, Jack, Rachel, and Natalie both physically and psychologically wounded.

My Review

5 stars

Toby is back and ready to fight vampires. Together with Jack, Rachel and Natalie they head to the Loubcroy, Scotland. It seems that vampire Alister McKeen rules the village with an iron fist. Toby is worried about Rachel and Jack is searching for a missing hunter and his girlfriend Angelina. Jack has another reason to hate Alister, he is the vampire that killed Jack’s parents. This is going to be a taxing mission for everyone, if they make it out alive.

I love this series. There is a great story, wonderful characters, and evil bad guys. Toby is so concerned about Rachel that he is almost distracted. Jack is clearly focusing on both finding Angelina and getting revenge on Alister. And Natalie, the poor girl is learning about how her magic works, especially with the effect her emotions have on the magic.

This is a great series and one that I recommend any age reading. It’s spooky and one you don’t want to read late on a weekday, you won’t be getting any sleep.
