…Preceded by Chaos by M. Wheeler
…Preceded by Chaos is an illustrated short story. The protagonist, Mitchell Weaver, is a young Emergency Medicine doctor. Mitchell has entered a high stress, distinguished profession with the burden of a variety of particularly disturbing personal demons that he must battle every day in order to maintain the faCade of sanity and control. The initial installment of the series, Volume 0, introduces the reader to Mitchell at a point in his life where he has begun to realize that many of his prior indulgences and deficits are no longer compatible with his current life of responsibility.
About M. Wheeler
Wheeler held an eclectic series of jobs – including working as a studio engineer and a teacher –
before he entered medical school in his thirties. During his residency while living in New York City, he wrote his first two books which would eventually become the Preceded by Chaos series. Wheeler travels extensively for his job but currently lives in Miami.
Mitchell and Sam are trying to catch up with their former colleagues Stampson Wright and Professor Matic. The problem is Stampson and the Professor don’t want to meet up with them. Mitchell and Sam go on the case to try and catch them in Birmingham, England. The problem is they arrive during the day and there is nothing there to catch the other two’s interest. Off they head to Berlin, Germany. They partake in prior enjoyments and catch a glimpse of Stampson. So they are off to Amsterdam. There they have more luck in their search.
I will be honest, I didn’t expect this story. I feel like I came into the middle of a story and I have no idea what is up. Mitchell and Sam want to meet up with some former friends but it seems that they are not interested. So they go on the hunt/chase to try and catch them. All the while partying in clubs, drinking and doing various drugs and trying to hook up with women.
I think that I’m just missing some pieces to the story. I don’t want to critique this too harshly because I do think there is some room for improvement. Either that or this just isn’t my type of story. All I can say is try the book, maybe it is your new favorite.
