Onyx Webb: Book Three by Andrea Waltz and Richard Fenton
Welcome Back to the World of Onyx Webb. This is Book Three. (Episodes 7, 8, and 9) One reviewer describes it as: “A suspenseful ghost story with a light touch of horror, a heavy dose of gruesome, and a cast of characters where some, but not all, are exceptionally creepy.”
The Onyx Webb series follows the unusual life of Onyx Webb along with a central group of characters in various locations and times. The billionaire Mulvaney family, piano prodigy Juniper Cole and her brother Quinn, paranormal show hosts Cryer and Fudge, and a few others make up the core of the series. Written like a book version of a supernatural soap opera, each character’s story moves forward with most every episode. It may appear that the characters are entirely unrelated and yet episode by episode, the connections will become clearer. Like being an inch away from a spider web, with each book, the web will move further and further away revealing the full story of every character and most importantly, the stunning conclusion for Onyx Webb herself.
In Book Three… It’s in the late 30’s and Onyx and Ulrich have started a new life in Crimson Cove, Oregon. It’s 2010, and Koda Mulvaney is picking up the pieces of the latest tragedy and still looking for the girl in the mirror. Paranormal show hosts Cryer and Fudge have a run in with a ghost at the Open Arms. It’s the 60’s and Declan Mulvaney is building the family fortune – a good intent with horrible consequences.

My Review
5 stars
We return to the story of Onyx Webb and those around her. Onyx and Ulrich have settled in Crimson Cove. But Ulrich something happens and Ulrich tries to kill Onyx again. Koda is still obsessed with the girl in the mirror while we learn of how his grandfather, Declan, makes his riches. Then there is Cryer and Fudge, their ghost hunting show is not going as well as they hoped. Hopefully filming the destruction of the orphanage will prove there really are ghosts.
Just when you think you might know where the story is heading, you are wrong and it goes in the completely opposite way. I keep thinking we will learn of how Onyx Webb died but we just keep skipping by. I loved the story of Declan. The poor man has been through hell yet he has persevered. I can’t blame him for wanting to tear down the orphanage.
This is a wonderful series. You have several people, across a large time period, with an individual story. But the more you read the clearer the connections to each person becomes. You are constantly guessing at what is going to happen next and being proven wrong. This is a great series and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.
I received Onyx Webb: Book Three from Teddy at Virtual Author Book Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.
Onyx Webb: Book Three
Excerpt
Ulrich opened the door to Onyx’s room. It was dark. The candle Ulrich left burning earlier was now a dry pool of wax. He opened the door further, allowing slivers of light to enter from the hallway behind him.
“Onyx?” Ulrich said quietly.
No response.
He approached the edge of the bed and could see Onyx was on her side, covers pulled up to her neck, her dark hair visible on the white pillowcase.
“Onyx, darling?” Ulrich said. Still no response.
Ulrich reached out, placed his hand on Onyx’s shoulder and shook her slightly. Nothing.
A slight smile formed on Ulrich’s lips, and he let out a sigh of relief. It had finally happened, Onyx was gone.
Ulrich looked up and noticed the canvas on the easel was now totally covered with paint. The irony hit him: Onyx had finished her final work of art, and Ulrich had finished Onyx.
As his eyes finally adjusted to the dark, Ulrich could see the painting was not an abstract; it was a painting of him in the kitchen with a package in his hand.
Ulrich squinted, trying to make out what was on the box. What was it? Then it became obvious: It was a skull and crossbones. Beneath it, Onyx had written a single word.
Gift.
Gift was the German word for poison. My God, Ulrich thought, Onyx knew. Perhaps she’s known all along.
“Merry Christmas, Ulrich,” Onyx said.
Ulrich started to turn, but before he could Onyx slammed a metal oil can into the back of his head.
Ulrich staggered forward and turned around just in time to see the second blow coming his way. He tried to lift his arms but wasn’t fast enough—the can catching him on the left side of his face.
Ulrich fell backward onto the bed, next to the pillows Onyx had positioned beneath the sheets to make it appear as if she were asleep. Onyx had used this trick before, Ulrich knew, when she’d snuck out of her father’s houseboat to run away with him.
Now she’d used the trick on him.
Ulrich lifted himself into an upright position and reached a hand toward her in a state of bewilderment, his eyes filled with a look of hope and sadness. But for Ulrich there was no hope. Onyx had already swung the can toward him for a third and final time.
The sharp bottom edge of the can caught Ulrich on the temple, just above his left eye, knocking him back with such force that it ripped a portion of the German’s face from his skull.
Onyx waited for Ulrich to get up again. He didn’t.
