Into the Dark

Into the Dark (Dies Irae – 2) by Lisa Hofmann

A year has passed since the Master Sorcerer’s murder. Lorcan Aurum returns to Ironstone to make a life for himself there, while Catherine Salt is forced to join a troupe of traveling harlots and sell her body to survive.

The merchants’ guild and the Inquisitor’s determined effort to destroy the Unnaturals bring about a shift in the political balance of the Duitiscish Kingdoms. Both Lorcan and Catherine find themselves faced with few and difficult choices. Though worlds apart, the connection they share is The Fair, but Lorcan is bound by an old promise to protect the Master Sorcerer’s legacy, whereas Catherine is driven by ambitions that might cause more damage to the Unnaturals than the Church ever could.

My Review

5 stars

It has been a year since the Master Sorcerer’s murder and Lorcan Aurum and Catherine Salt have gone their own ways in life. Lorcan is trying to continue his master’s work. Catherine on the other hand ends up working as a prostitute and becomes warped from her experiences. But when those that want to destroy the Unnaturals stir up politics, Loran and Catherine will be fighting for their lives.

Lorcan has become the light of this book. He is just so nice and wants the best for everyone. Catherine on the other hand has become the darkness in this story. At first you feel sorry for her as a prostitute but as she twists and turns evil I couldn’t help but hope someone will put her out of everyone’s misery.

I love this series, it’s well developed and draws you into its folds. I love how I think I will just read a couple chapters before bed and look up to realize that it’s 3:00 am. Eh, who needs sleep anyway? Then when you reach the end you don’t want to leave this world. I can’t wait for the next book, I just have to see what happens next.

I received Into the Dark from the author for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.
