Three Minutes

Three Minutes (Grens & Sundkvist – 7) by Anders Roslund & Borge Hellstrom

Presumed dead by the Stockholm police, master criminal and undercover informant Piet Hoffmann is now on the run from the Swedish authorities, living with his wife and two young sons under an assumed name in Cali, Colombia. Only Hoffmann’s former police handler, Erik Wilson, knows where he is–and that he has accepted two dangerous new jobs: one as a high-level enforcer for a Colombian cocaine cartel and one as an infiltrator for the DEA, working to bring the cartel down. The FBI even lends credence to his cover story by adding Hoffmann’s alias to the Most Wanted list.

But when the Speaker of the House is kidnapped by the cartel during an official visit to Colombia, everything changes–fast. Hoffmann is party to the highest-profile political kidnapping in years and therefore directly in the firing line in what is quickly dubbed the “Final War on Drugs.” Suddenly, the Most Wanted list becomes a kill list and the DEA cuts off all contact on orders from the top, leaving Hoffmann and his family stranded.

Hoffmann must walk a delicate line as he tries to protect his young family and keep up his dual role as a cartel enforcer and a deniable intelligence asset for the US government. It soon becomes clear that his only chance at getting out alive is to rescue the Speaker of the House and bring him back to the States–but to do it he’ll need the help of Ewert Grens, the stubborn, dogged Stockholm detective who hasn’t forgotten Hoffmann since the explosive showdown in Aspsas prison years ago.

5 stars

Piet Hoffmann faked his death in a prison and is now on the run. He has been given a new name and along with his family been relocated to Columbia. Piet now works for a cocaine boss called El Sueco but is also a DEA informant. To make his role look believable he was added to the FBI’s Most Wanted list. But then an American Chairman of the House of Representatives, Thomas D. Cruise, goes on a war against drugs after the death of his daughter. But when Thomas gets to Columbia he gets himself kidnapped. Back home everyone decides to go to war with the cartels and starts using the FBI’s Most Wanted as a hit list. Piet knows that he is on his own and does what he needs to in order to keep his family and himself alive. He is going to have to rely on DCI Ewert Grens to help him try and rescue Cruise.

This is the seventh book in the Grens & Sundkvist series and although I have not read the other books I did not have a hard time figuring out what was happening. Piet is doing everything he can to stay alive yet help against the Columbian cartels. But he finds himself and his family’s lives in the balance when he is cut lose from his DEA handler and become a target in the war against drugs. You can’t forget about Thomas either. I understand why he is out to start war but he is fighting blind instead of looking at everything.

This is an action packed thrill ride. It’s easy to fall into this story and hope that Piet and his family will come out the other side of this battle in one piece. I also wanted Thomas to be saved, he had the best intentions even if he went in heavy handed. This is a great thriller and I am interested in reading the other books in this series.

Temptation Trials

Temptation Trials Part 1 by B. Truly

Will You Be Tempted? Will Love Save Your Soul?

One nation under his reign.

Cardinal sins of man caused humanity to pay the price. Cali Nasser grew up in a world succeeding World War III. The aftermath forced the world dictatorship that she must now live in. A new Regime arose from the ashes. They demanded obedience and cooperation from every citizen, even in matters of the heart.

One domain … One accord … One nation. That is the moral code. In Cali’s eyes, it all revolves around a twisted plot for control.

It used to sicken Cali how people would allow the Regime to test their love through the Temptation Trials. That is, until she met Kincade. Cali’s entire point of view changes when she falls for him. She struggles with herself, debating if she should challenge the government’s law of arranged marriage.

Cali’s childhood friend, Stefani, always kept a positive perspective about their lives until she was threatened with the same dilemma, at odds over the man she loves.

Now Cali and Stefani face a desperate choice—submit to the Regime’s will, or fight for what they value most—love. Although lust, mistaken for love, could lead to damnation. Do they give up on love or sign up for the Temptation Trials, a reality TV show where every temptation is laid before them?

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Can love save their souls?

My Review

4 stars

After World War III the world is now controlled by a dictatorship. This dictatorship controls everyone’s lives including who they will love. The only exception to this is if you are willing to take part in a reality television show called Temptation Trials. Essentially the couple get split up on separate islands full of sexy people that are trying to get you to cheat on your love. But this is no simple test of love, you have to date and raging hormones are not going to help keep you true to your love.

Initially the story catches you up on what is happening in this new dictatorship and those that want to rebel. Then the story is told from alternating viewpoints of Cali Nasser and Stefani Ponce. Both girls try to guard their hearts to try to distance themselves from the love. But when they meet two sexy guys they fall for them and decide to try the Temptation Trials. That should be easy, right? No one has successfully made it through the Trials but Cali and Stef just know that they will make it. But this is a rigged game.

This story is well written and filled with lust. I really liked the concept of the dictatorship ruling everything about your life and giving people a chance at making themselves a fool in front of the world for their true loves, especially when no one has successfully won the Trials. But I have to say following the girls did get frustrating since it seemed that they took every chance that was bound to be difficult instead of thinking through their actions.

Of course the book stops with some unanswered questions. I did enjoy the story and I would like to see what happens in book 2 and what the answers to those questions that are left open will be.

Ground: The Raven High

Grond: The Raven High by Yuri Hamaganov

In the year 2086, Earth is exhausted. The seas have been emptied, the bedrock and soil stripped of their resources, and the superheated atmosphere churns with terrible storms. Those who can afford to do so live in the limbo of virtual reality, and the billions who suffer in poverty have no work, no clean water, and no security from the chaos.

The only hope for those trapped on a dying Earth are the Changed—the seven bioengineered post-humans who work in their separate manufacturing facilities orbiting high above the planet. Raised from birth for their work and fully matured at ten years old, their genius provides the nanomaterials that have begun to cleanse Earth of the pollutants that have wiped out almost the entire ecosphere.

But for Olga Voronov, youngest of the Changed, the isolation and endless toil are not the greatest of her challenges. Down on Earth there are those who resent and fear her talents—and would prefer that humanity not be given the second chance that only she could make possible …

 Author’s Bio

Yuri Hamaganov lives in Moscow. He created the GROND series as a present for himself when he was twelve years old. This was the story he had always dreamed of exploring, and when he realized that nobody had written it for him, he set out to do it himself.

My Review

The Earth is coming to an end. No water, no fertile lands, and those with money can escape to virtual worlds and those left behind are left to suffer. But there is hope. Seven Changed kids are orbiting the world. They are enhanced humans that have been raised by androids and their whole purpose is to save the world. This is Olga’s story, otherwise known as Raven. We will follow along as she grows into her position to run a water plant. But she knows nothing about what is really happening on the surface of the Earth and how many humans want her to fail just so their lives will end.

Olga lives in orbit over the Earth and we learn how she is one of seven that are the last hope for humanity. We follow along as her android nanny raised her and prepares her to help fulfills her role. The problem with this is the story revolves around her life. There is a lot of dialect as we learn of Olga, her world, and how she is expected to be running things when she is 10 years old. This caused a gap with me and I had a hard time really caring about her.

But over all I liked the idea of this story. It is a fresh look at a dying Earth and a possible resolution. Yuri Hamaganov is Russian and translated this from the original Russian version himself. I think he did a great job although you might find one or two places that don’t really flow.

I really liked this story and feel it was a great start to a new series. I am very curious about where Hamaganov if going to take the series next.

“Get him to his feet,” Sarah ordered.
“Watch my shoulder,” Jedediah said. “Hurts like a son of a bitch.”
Sarah slipped beneath his wounded arm while Bobby Ray slipped under the other one. They led Jedediah to a seat that hadn’t been overturned during the fight.
The cowboy knelt before him, pulling back Jedediah’s shirt to scrutinize the wound. His face remained hidden by the wide brim of his hat. He wore hide boots whose origin Jedediah could only speculate and his skin smelled like fire.
“It’s not too deep,” the cowboy said. “Won’t take me a minute.” He pressed his large flat palm against the wound.
Jedediah bit the inside of his cheek to keep from screaming. His mouth pooled with the iron-taste of his own blood.
The cowboy lifted his hand.
Jedediah stared as the gaping holes in his flesh were completely healed; the tear in his blood soaked shirt was all that remained. “Well, I’ll be damned.”
“Be careful, bartender. You don’t meant it.” He leaned over the body of what had once been Frances Deveaux and whatever had tried to eat Jedediah. “This one’s dead.”
“Course he is,” Bobby Ray said. “You killed him.”
“No. This man’s been dead.” The cowboy rolled the body on to its stomach with the steel-tipped toe of his boot. “Was before he walked through those doors.”
“The living dead?” Bobby Ray whispered.
“Of all the unholy things,” said Sarah.
Beneath Frances Deveaux’s shoulder blade lay an empty cavity where his liver should have been.
“Detestable.” Sarah covered her mouth and swept to an empty seat near the bar.
“Did he say why he was here?” the cowboy asked, staring at the body.
“Not precisely. Just said some woman tried to kill him, so he gave her what she wanted.”
“And what was that?”
Jedediah gulped hard. “Me.”
The man looked up, his face in shadows. “You?”
“That’s right.”
“Did she say what for?”
“Never got to that part.”
The man didn’t say a word as he stared at Jedediah. Finally, he spoke. “Something’s after you, Jed. I’m gonna stay in town a while to figure out what.” He looked up. “You okay with that?”
His eyes shone in a radiant shade of violet. Dirty-blond hair fell ragged from beneath his hat.
“Yes, Simeon. I’m okay with it,” Jedediah said. “I think I’m gonna need some help on this one.”
“First thing to figure out is where this man’s liver went. Hopefully, it will lead to this woman you mentioned.” Simeon stood, walked back to the entrance, and turned in the doorway. “You all better get your feet shod,” he said with a smirk, tipping his hat, “because it’s about to get ugly.”

Author’s Bio

An Amazon bestselling author, D.F. Bailey is a W.H. Smith First Novel Award and a Whistler Independent Book Award finalist.

In 2015 D.F. Bailey published The Finch Trilogy — Bone Maker, Stone Eater, and Lone Hunter — three novels narrated from the point-of-view of a crime reporter in San Francisco. Second Life (2017) is the first in a series of stand-alone books that follows the characters established in the trilogy.

His first novel, Fire Eyes, was optioned for film. His second novel, Healing the Dead, was translated into German as Todliche Ahnungen. The Good Lie, another psychological thriller, was recorded as an audiobook. A fourth novel, Exit from America, made its debut as an e-book in 2013.

Following his birth in Montreal, D.F. Bailey’s family moved around North America from rural Ontario to New York City to McComb, Mississippi to Cape May, New Jersey. He finally “landed on his feet” on Vancouver Island — where he lives next to the Salish Sea in the city of Victoria.

For twenty-two years D.F. Bailey worked at the University of Victoria where he taught creative writing and journalism and coordinated the Professional Writing Cooperative Education Program — which he co-founded. From time to time he also freelanced as a business writer and journalist. In the fall of 2010 he left the university so that he could turn “his pre-occupation with writing into a full-blown obsession.”

In 1978 in Jonestown 900 people killed their children then committed suicide. But what if two of the children escaped into the jungle then made their way back to the United State, were given new identities, and were placed in foster care. How would this affect them? What did they live through and what are they doing in the present. How does this link up to a global warming debate that leads to a man being killed and a hit list discovered with Will Finch’s name on it.

This action packed story draws you in with the possibility of two survivors from the Jamestown massacre. Will they embrace the fresh start and fall into the traditional role of an American? But what if they were so indoctrinated that they become a sleeper cell of future terror? The possibilities are endless but are scary when you think of a hit list with your name on it.

Will Finch is covering a global warming debate when he sees a former escaped felon commit suicide and discovers his Armani suit jacket. When he goes through the pockets he finds a hit list with his name on it. Of course the action takes off from there as Will looks for the linking pieces to the mystery while trying to stay one step ahead of someone trying to kill him.

This is a great thriller with an amazing mystery. You will be on the edge of your seat trying to solve the mystery and hoping Will doesn’t meet his maker.

What readers are saying about the Will Finch Mystery Thriller Series

Well worth the read. It’s always a nice surprise to find a book from an author I’m not familiar with that draws me in and keeps me reading to the end. With great, believable dialogue and enough back story for the main characters to give them depth, along with the interwoven threads of a few mysteries that kept my interest, I’ll be happily digging into the series to find out what happens next. — M.J. Stark

GREAT THRILLER. ENGAGING! HARD TO PUT DOWN. Bailey does it again! Bone Maker is nicely written, and a well-told thriller. The Astoria setting adds to the mystery. It’s a pleasant story that winds up, then unwinds to reveal all the secrets, except for ONE, which will begin his next story. Stay tuned! — WH, Sr. Editor, Rt. 66 Publishing

As the story weaves through a new collection of bad deeds and intrigue the threads from Bone Maker twist … A hard to put down book which followed on dramatically from the first book Bone Maker. As the story weaves through a new collection of bad deeds and intrigue the threads from Bone Maker twist their way in and out of the new fabric reinforcing the story line. Intimate and intricate relationships support and sometimes surprise and when you think that you understand all and the book is about to finish, you are left dangling and craving for more. — Liz Crosswell

Intriguing Thriller. As an investigative reporter Will Finch seems to get into one scrape after another. Just as he survives one dangerously deadly encounter, he is enveloped in yet another. Mr. Bailey has a way with words: his prose is quite descriptive, his plots complicated – yet with no loose ends, and his characters are well fleshed out. He manages to maintain a fast, but steady, pace – but not so fast as to leave anything out or to leave the reader in the dark. As with us all, Will has “history” and this back story surfaces throughout the book. As the ending of Book 1 leads into Book 2, thus ending segues nicely into Book 3. — Keeler

I really liked the way this story wrapped up the trilogy. The bad guys got justice served, though there were other good guys lost beforehand. Will and Eve will make a strong pairing in future stories that I hope will be written. I highly recommend this and the previous two books. — Robert Romberger

A Fine End of The Story. This, the third book in Mr. Bailey’s trilogy, is a spellbinder. Will and his girlfriend Eve are recovering from their own personal tragedies, leaning on each other as they stumble through the puzzle of the theft and recovery of techno-fortunes. The threats and pain, fear and greed they face are magnified by their growing relationship, and suspense carries us through to the very end of the story. The only negative aspect of this book is in it’s being the end of the trilogy; readers will want to spend more time with this dynamic couple. — Joan Hutchins

Bella was attacked by Hazeem when she discovered his setting a bomb and if it wasn’t for Jack she would be dead. Jack has a thing for Bella and has tried to remain distant but that attack set off his protectiveness. Bella is now seeing Jack in a different light and finds herself drawn to him. But there is not a lot of time for romance since the men of Savage Security go on the hunt for these terrorists.

I’m so glad to see that Bell and Jack have finally gotten together. It’s sweet but there is no time to get too wrapped up in each other, Jack still has a job to do with the team. And they have their hands full hunting these terrorists down. With lots of action you will be flipping pages like crazy to see what happens next.

This is an amazing, thrilling series. Yes, it has romance in it but the story is not over powered with it. I can’t wait to see what Karen Tjebben comes up with next.

The Child

By Fiona Barton

You can bury the story…but you can’t hide the truth

*One of Publishers Weekly and Bustle’s Most Anticipated Books of 2017*

*A TIME “Top 10” Summer Thriller*

*Pre-publication exclusives featured by Entertainment Weekly and theSkimm*

*Praise from Lee Child, Shari Lapena, and Clare Mackintosh *

*Starred Reviews from Publishers Weekly and Library Journal*

*A June 2017 Library Reads Selection*

This summer FIONA BARTON is back with a second novel that proves lightning can strike twice.

Barton’s 2016 debut, The Widow, was an instant global bestseller, captivating readers around the world and setting the publishing industry abuzz.

The highly-anticipated release of THE CHILD (Berkley Hardcover; June 27, 2017) reaffirms Barton’s growing reputation as a writer of rich, character-driven suspense novels. Like Tana French, Louise Penny, and Megan Abbott, Barton’s stories do more than thrill: they explore the complexities of a changing world.

The Widow delved into the secrets that exist within a marriage and the reporter’s role as voyeur.  Here Barton continues to mine those themes. THE CHILD tackles the 24/7 news cycle, and lays bare the intricacies of a different but equally fascinating relationship—mother and child.

Says Barton: “The emotions, responsibilities—and the pain—of motherhood are unique to each of us with children. Ask any woman and she will have her own story to tell.”

In a working class neighborhood of London, construction workers make a grisly discovery: the long-buried remains of a baby.  When a newspaper mention reveals the find, most readers barely give it a glance. But for two women, its threat to unearth hidden stories is impossible to ignore. For veteran reporter, Kate Waters (introduced in The Widow), it sparks the question “Who would bury a baby?” and starts a hunt for the truth about the nameless child. The story unfolds via the women’s alternating perspectives to eventually reveal: Who is Building Site Baby?

In fact, it was the allure of a hidden story that propelled Barton to her long-time career in news. A journalist and British Press Awards “Reporter of the Year,” she has worked at the Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph, and brings that experience to bear in her novels.

In THE CHILD she details how Kate’s lengthy investigation into Building Site Baby’s death represents a perilous breach of the newsroom’s new culture of 24/7 online news. Says Barton: “The danger for Kate is that she risks becoming one of the dinosaurs—sidelined because she is unable and unwilling to be part of the revolution. And I feel for her.”

Though THE CHILD delivers an evocative look at the changing face of journalism, and a delicious plot twist, it is the characters’ haunting and rich emotional lives that set Barton apart and confirm her stature as a crime novelist of the first order.

Fiona Barton
Author’s Bio

My career has taken some surprising twists and turns over the years. I have been a journalist – senior writer at the Daily Mail, news editor at the Daily Telegraph, and chief reporter at The Mail on Sunday, where I won Reporter of the Year at the National Press Awards, gave up my job to volunteer in Sri Lanka and since 2008, have trained and worked with exiled and threatened journalists all over the world.

But through it all, a story was cooking in my head.

The worm of this book infected me long ago when, as a national newspaper journalist covering notorious crimes and trials, I found myself wondering what the wives of those accused really knew – or allowed themselves to know.

It took the liberation of my career change to turn that fascination into a tale of a missing child, narrated by the wife of the man suspected of the crime, the detective leading the hunt, the journalist covering the case and the mother of the victim.

Much to my astonishment and delight, The Widow is available now in the UK, and around the world in the coming months.

However, the sudden silence of my characters feels like a reproach and I am currently working on a second book.

My husband and I are living the good life in south-west France, where I am writing in bed, early in the morning when the only distraction is our cockerel, Sparky, crowing.

Two Brothers: Species

Two Brothers: Species (A Ramtalan Trilogy – 3) by Sofia Diana Gabel

The third and final book in the Ramtalan Trilogy brings Argus and Tai Dachel to a critical juncture in their lives. Struggling to maintain some sort of normalcy, the boys soon discover that they’ll never be the same and those around them, including Argus’s girlfriend Lola, are in danger from the Invaders and the government agency AURA. With enhanced abilities, Argus has to come to grips with being different from his brother, and being an enemy to the Ramtalans he thought were his friends. When hyper-intelligent, powerful Argustine Lenox and his sister, Galena, threaten to cleanse the Earth of humans and New Breeds, Argus and Tai have a difficult decision to make. Which side do they join? The Invaders accept them, while the Settler Ramtalans consider them dangerous. As if that’s not enough, Argus is on the brink of adulthood and must choose what sort of man he wants to be; defiant, compassionate, strong or all three. Nothing will matter though if he can’t save the Earth.

Argus and Tai Dachel are New Breeds that have managed to live longer than most. But they are caught in the middle of a war. Invaders accept Argus yet they want to cleanse the Earth of humans and Ramtalans. The settled Ramtalans don’t trust the brothers. And, of course, AURA is bound and determined to catch the brothers and experiment on them. If that is not enough happening in their lives, Arugs’ heightened abilities are coming into play as he tries to figure out who he wants to be. The only thing that they know for sure is that everything is going to change and those they love are going to be in danger.

This is an amazing series and like all good things it must come to an end. I have loved the series from the start and have been on the edge of my seat while reading Two Brothers: Species. I have loved Argus from the start and have wished nothing but the best in this tough time. I wish for a happy ending but it just seemed that it was not in the cards.

If you like young adult sci-fi stories you need to read the Ramtalans series. There is action, adventure, romance, and an alien society with war. But before you start, I want to warn you that you better make sure you have all three books because you will be reading them back to back.

Excerpt: Two Brothers: Species

Lola was sleeping peacefully and since Argus didn’t want to wake her, he crept into the kitchen for something to drink. His head was spinning from everything that had happened, especially with Tai. How could he have done that to his own brother? If Galena hadn’t been around, Tai would be dead, permanently. Argus got a glass of water and noticed the dent in the wall where he’d thrown Tai.

“What have I done? I hurt everyone around me.” He leaned against the kitchen counter. He was racking up quite a list; Tai, Lola and Aunt Celeste, who was now Galena’s prisoner. “Damn it!”

“Argie?” Lola whispered in a hoarse voice.

He rushed to her side. “Lola? Are you all right? How do you feel?”

She was sitting up, still very pale. “Where am I? What happened? Your eyes!”

He sat on the couch, covered his eyes and took her hand. “This is a place called the Citadel. The Ramtalan headquarters on Earth. But you’re okay. I accidentally brought you here.”

“Oh. But what’s wrong with your eyes? They’re red.”

“I know. Don’t freak out. It’s nothing. Should I put sunglasses on?”

She shook her head. “No. I’ll get used to it. It kind of looks like you had a bad night, a really bad night.” She gently pulled his hand away from his eyes. “Wow. Do they hurt?”

“No.” He sighed. “I’ve sort of inherited my father’s eyes. Are you sure you’re not freaked out?” He looked away.

“Argie, at this point, nothing about you freaks me out. So what exactly happened? I was at school, on the field with the spaceship and then I felt like something was tearing me apart.” She burrowed her head against his shoulder. “It was horrible.”

“I’m so sorry. I would never have done that to you on purpose. It’s called a molecular shift. Are you sure you’re okay?” He stroked her hair. “I’d die if anything ever happened to you.”

She leaned back and wiggled her hands and arms. “Nothing seems to be broken. How does a molecular shift work? Did it make me invisible like you said it makes you?”

How much should he tell her? Well, obviously not too much since he didn’t fully understand how a shift worked. “It, ah, dissociates your molecules, or something like that. But then they all come back together.” He gave a little shrug. “It stops hurting after a few times.”

Lola nodded. “Well, I don’t want to do it again. Ever. Is your brother here, too? And your aunt?”

“Yeah. But…” How could he tell her he’d brought her right into the middle of a war and that Lenox was on his way? “I don’t want to talk about it right now.”

“Oh, okay. Family drama. I get it.” She took his hand. “Hey, before I forget, everyone loves our spaceship float.” She smiled and drew in a deep breath. “Rumor has it that we’ll win best float.”

Argus found himself smiling, too. “Cool. I love you, Lola.”

“You better,” she whispered.

He gave her a kiss on the cheek and stood. “Lola, Lenox is coming here.”

She jumped to her feet. “What? I hate that guy. Sorry, I know he’s your dad, but really, I hate him. Can we leave and go home before he gets here? Where exactly are we?”

“Labrador. Under an island. And we can’t leave. When I tried to bring another Ramtalan here, I accidentally brought you. I don’t want to try to do anything else that could…hurt you.” He looked at her carefully. She didn’t seem any different. Maybe Galena was wrong. “You sure you feel okay?”

She walked around the living room. “Yep, I feel pretty good in fact. Galena’s coming.”

“What? What did you say?” Argus went to her. “Lola, how do you know that?”

A moment later, the door opened and Galena, with Ari in tow, walked in. She didn’t have the Wand. “Argus, I need you to come with me. Tai’s asking for you. Hello, Lola.”

Lola came forward. “You’re Galena, aren’t you? How do I know you?”

Instinctively, Argus dashed out in front of Lola. “Lola, it turns out that Galena is my real aunt. And Ari over there is my half-brother.”

“You have a very complicated family, Argie.”

He nodded. “I know. Galena helped…I mean…when I brought you here, she sort of…”

Galena groaned. “Nice to see you up and around, Lola. Argus, go with Ari, Lola and I need to have a talk.”

“Wait!” Argus shook his head. “I’m not leaving her here with you.”

Lola put her hand on his shoulder. “It’s okay. I think I need to talk to her.”

Argus turned and faced her. “I can’t leave you, Lola. I mean, I really can’t. It’s that Protector thing in me.”

“Argus,” Galena said firmly. “I will not harm Lola, but I must evaluate her. You need to leave. Tai’s fighting with the medical team and won’t settle down until he sees you. Lola will be here when you get back. Understand?”

“Lola.” Argus leaned down slightly and kissed her on the lips. It felt like the first time he’d ever kissed her; warm and sweet. “I’ll be right back.”

Ari was standing by the open door with a scowl on his face. “Hurry up, Argus, I have more important things to do than babysit you and Tai.”

Argus went to Ari and shoved him out of the way. “Nobody babysits either of us, brother.” He strode through the doorway and into the corridor.

Annabel is a hybrid hunter of paranormal creatures that is out for the vampire that killed her parents and put her brother in a coma. She has changed her name and is on the hunt for the vampire to save her brother. When she gets into town she meets the sheriff, Shane. Shane is a werewolf and knows that Annabel is his soul mate. Of course he is overly protective of her which is not going to make Annabel’s hunt easy. But she cannot deny that there are sparks between them.

I really enjoyed this book. Annabel is one tough cookie and she is determined to get her vampire. But she cannot deny her feelings for Shane. Granted she doesn’t need him saving her. But what should she do? Should she keep up the facade? Should she tell Shane the truth about being a hybrid? Then there is Shane who is so sweet and eager to keep Annabel with him.

This is a great paranormal romance. It has bad guys, a kick butt heroine, and a steamy romance. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

I received Soul-Mate from Silver Dagger Book Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

Author’s Bio

I am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist–words are my palette. Fantasy is my genre of choice, and I love to explore the darker side of human nature through the filter of fantasy heroes, villains, and everything in between. I’m also a freelance writer, a book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the pages of fantasy novels.

Fantasy provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle–it is our way of believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand new way. Fiction at its very best!

Ilanna is a skilled thief of the Night Guild but she wants out. But freedom does not come easily. She is going to have to plan and prepare if she is going to be stealing the golden sarcophagus out of the most heavily guarded mansions. But the heist is not the only thing keeping Ilanna on her toes. Those in her own house would gladly throw her to the wolves if it would mean they gain. But Ilanna is not just fighting for her own freedom, there is more at stake than just her life.

Ilanna is one tough woman. She has gone through hell to come out as part of the House Hawk. But now the stakes are higher and she is bound and determined to get out of the Night Guild. She is quick on her feet, great at strategy and planning, and is tough as nails. She gets in over her head and takes her licks but she is still fighting in the end. She is an amazing character.

This books has action and thrills. There were times I was holding my breath and others where I was cheering for Ilanna. If you want an amazing read you need to check this series out. Andy Peloquin is an awesome author and is one of my favorites when it comes to dark fantasies.

I received Thief of the Night Guild from the author for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.
