My Review
5 stars

Alycat is suffering from the Monday Blues. She can’t find her shoes, she doesn’t feel good, and she doesn’t want to go to school. Tomorrow is the talent show and she doesn’t have a talent. When she gets to school things keep taking a turn for the worst. But then she hears Spotty playing his saxophone and things quickly turn around.

This is a wonderful story. Although Alycat was having a bad day, a little music helped to make it better. I loved the illustrations to go with it. Chiara Civati did an amazing job to bring this story to life.

I think anyone from any age will enjoy this book, especially children having a bad day or needing to discover a secret talent. This is a great story and should be one added to anyone’s collection.

I received Alycat and the Monday Blues from iRead Book Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

My Career Paths and the Profession I Enjoy the Most

by Alysson Foti Bourque

I have had several careers and have really enjoyed them all. I graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Biology. I began my teaching career as a first-grade teacher and loved it. After teaching for a year, I decided that I wanted to keep challenging myself and applied for and was accepted into law school at Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, LA. Three years later, I graduated and passed the bar exam and took a job as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Louisiana. This was such an exciting career as I was able to attend the legislative sessions, rewrite the Emergency Handbook at Hurricane Katrina hit, and defend various agencies within the State of Louisiana. It was definitely a challenging, rewarding, and rigorous profession. And never lacked excitement. Two kids and six years later, I decided to put my law career on hold to spend more time at home with the kids. This was the best decision I have ever made. I was able to slow down in life and enjoy the little things. I had more time to write about things that I enjoyed—not just trial briefs and motions.

Becoming a children’s book author has been the most enjoyable career path that I have taken. When I signed with my publisher, I received an email from the CEO of the publishing company stating that he was an attorney before he began writing and publishing books. He assured me that this profession was far more enjoyable than practicing law. He was absolutely right!
