In the near future, the secrets of immortality have been unlocked.

Those lucky enough to live forever reside behind the walls of the Enclave, like seventeen-year-old Xander, who on his next birthday is to be Uploaded into a new, indestructible body, never to age or die.

Then there are those that live in the Outside, shrouded in the miserable shadow of the walled city. For Rachel, fighting to survive is a way of life, but trouble is brewing.

When the two paths cross, the secrets of Uploading begin to unravel. Not everyone can live forever, and as each day passes, the price of immortality grows.

The clock ticks down, and Rachel and Xander are left with no choice but to fight the terrifying Enclave government, who will stop at nothing to preserve their way of life.

If you are in the Enclave you will live forever with no problems. Humanity has progressed to the point that at a certain age you can upload yourself into an indestructible body. Xander is 17 years old and having doubts about his upload. Once uploaded Xander will lose everything about himself and become just another cog in the governmental wheel. He is determined to get to the underground and out of the Enclave.

Rachel lives Outside in the shadow of the walls of the Enclave where people die all the time from illness and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She is doing anything possible to keep her family together and alive. But it gets harder and harder every day. Together Xander and Rachel find themselves in the middle of a rebellion. Although neither one of them wants to be part of it they are going to have to step up if they want their freedom.

I love dystopian stories and this one had a fresh outlook on them. You do have the elites inside and those suffering outside. But I like the idea of uploading and how the story talks about the waste we have today.

This is the first book in a series so prepare for a cliff hanger. But as a first book I think James Hughes did a fantastic job. I can’t wait to see what he has instore next.
