Tug Wyler Series by Andy Siegel
The Tug Wyler series is based off of the real life experience of Andy Siegel. I will admit that I work for an attorney and I tend to stay away from legal stories. But there was something about the descriptions compelled me to give them a try. I am so glad that I did.
Nelly’s Case (Book 3)
Nelly Rivera, when Tug first sees her, lies helpless in a hospital bed. Once sassy, active and ambitious, she’s now a young woman with an uncertain future and a present seemingly tied to dependency. Discovering exactly what happened to her in a dental office while under anesthesia and who was responsible, however, is just one of Tug’s goals. For he soon enough learns Nelly has recently inherited a hefty sum from her late father’s life insurance. Which definitely complicates matters. The closer Tug, committed as always to gaining justice, gets to the truth, the more elusive it becomes.

Nelly Rivera has a fear of the dentist and an allergic reaction to nitrous oxide. So she and her sister Jessie go to a Painless Dental doctor for treatment. The doctor sets everything up then leaves the room. Suddenly Nelly has a sever reaction and ends up in a coma at the emergency room. As Tug is reading the medical report from the doctor it looks like this is an allergic reaction to the anesthesia. But there is something more happening here. Why did the doctor leave the room after starting the anesthesia?
We first meet Tug as he is getting ready to go into a hearing with a judge and defense counsel that has it out for him. Tug’s business partner, Henry Benson shows up and tries to get Tug to leave right away for a new client. What ensues is contempt of court and Tug spending six hours in jail. But his case was settled by Henry and he is now clear for Nelly Rivera’s case.
I love Tug’s wit and sarcasm, he comes across as someone that really cares for the clients and a willingness to stand up for them. His knowledge of law and medical procedures give the story that taste of realism that makes you realize someone has actually gone through this even in some way. And let’s not forget the main thing about any story, nothing is what it seems.
This is a great story that is the third book in the series yet could easily be read as a standalone. I will admit that I started skimming this book to see what it was all about and I found myself reading the whole book.
Tug Wyler is one of my new favorite characters. I can’t wait to see what he, or Henry, gets into next.
Elton’s Case (Book 4)
Wrongfully locked up for a crime he didn’t commit, the wheelchair-bound Elton Cribbs’s immediate situation soon goes from bad to tragic. Could it have happened that, while in custody and being transported with less than suitable care in a police van, he suffered the injuries which rendered him a paraplegic? Certainly, ever since then—for the past decade—he’s led the life of an aggrieved victim, seeking justice while rejecting pity. Retained now to litigate Elton’s case even as the clock’s ticking, Tug finds himself caught in the unlikeliest of conflicts. After all, what’s he supposed to think when the defendant, otherwise known as the City of New York, begins offering him millions to settle while at the same time maintaining its allegation that Elton’s case is a phony one?

Elton Cribbs was incarcerated for a crime he didn’t commit. While being transported, he is improperly secured in the van and with a little help from a cold guard finds himself a paraplegic. Elton does fight the conviction and is freed of prison but his life has been changed. He starts a case against the City of New York for his current paraplegic condition. Enter Tug Wyler.
Tug is curious about this case. Elton is a veteran and has done a lot of good in the prison system. Elton is to the point and seems to have a plan laid out in his mind for what is going to happen. Then the defense counsel talks with Tug and warns him off this case. The City of New York is calling Elton a fraud. But if Elton is a fraud, why is the City of New York offering millions to settle?
I loved watching as Tug wins the case at the opening of the book. Watching in get the doctor to admit that he was wrong with his diagnosis was fascinating. It shows that Tug has a clear understanding of how the body works and is willing to call an expert on his biased testimony. Of course my curiosity was peaked when Tug was warned off the case before it was even given to him. Clearly there is something going on.
This is a great story that will quickly draw you in and leave you up late trying to figure out what is really going on. I loved the realistic legal procedure and the vast medical knowledge. Tug is a great lawyer that really cares for his clients and wants to get them justice.
This is a great series and one of the few legal stories that I keep. You really need to check this one out.
Jenna’s Case (Book 5)

Author’s Bio
So how did the colorful, cocky and self-deprecating Tug Wyler come into being? He was hanging around, shadowing my daily life for a long time; I just didn’t know it. But here’s the short version: I shared a trial story with a mom at my kids baseball game who said I should write a book and the idea of him just appeared in my head.
Unable to shake the spell he cast, I began to write, each morning when I got on Metro North, what became my debut novel, Suzy’s Case. But I was doing it only to amuse myself. I didn’t read courtroom mysteries or legal thrillers; as far as I was concerned, I was living them. The rush to cover up genuine wrongs of the sort that lie at the heart of the Tug Wyler Mysteries happens continually out there in the real world. Believe me, fiction doesn’t know the half of it.
Scribner, a Division of Simon & Schuster published Suzy’s Case. My book agent Sterling Lord then penned a deal with Open Road Media and Mysteriouspress.com to publish Cookie’s Case. After requesting and receiving the reversion of my rights on these novels, and after my option with CBS Television to create a one-hour procedural TV show based on the Tug Wyler character expired, I formed Rockwell Press.
For Tug Wyler readers, I promise a mix of rule-bending high-tension conflict during the course of which you’ll laugh in spite of yourself . . . while never knowing what’s going to happen next. Like me, Tug’s the kind of street-smart push-it-to-the-limit lawyer you’d want on your side when the worst has happened.
This is a great series and I will definitely be getting Cookie’s Case and Suzy’s Case to see what I have missing.
