Book Description:

Harold! There goes that spider! See, he is running on the floor! That spider has to go. He cannot live here anymore!!! Oh, no! Beth looks very, very angry. What has A.R. Achnid done now? Well, before A.R. got into big trouble with Beth, he had a lot of wonderful adventures.

There are ten different adventures in this book. There is the time he went to the circus and rode on a balloon, and then had some shoo fly pie. Another day, A.R. and Rex (a Great Dane, who is A.R.’s best friend) decided to walk all the way into town, and they had such a wonderful time. Then, A.R. and his family went to New York City for the biggest craft fair ever (which was for spiders only), plus many, many other adventures.

Unfortunately, in the tenth story, A.R.’s current living situation is going to need an adjustment. Something changes in the lives of Harold and Beth (the humans) that will make things very difficult for A.R. Come along with A.R. for some fun, and find out what small bundle will cause problems for A.R. and his family.

As A.R. says, “Spiders rule!”

The Publishing Process for me…

I think that probably the scariest thing for me with writing my books and trying to get them published was the time that I sent two of my stories into a publishing company. They were so nice over the phone, and said to go right ahead and fax those stories over to them.   I asked if they would call me to let me know if they received them, and a person did call us back.  After that, we never heard back from them again.  At that point, you don’t know if your stories were good, or not good, or the best story there ever was, or just scribbles on paper.  Then you start to wonder that, if it was really good and you didn’t hear back from these people, would they steal your work?  It was terrifying to me.  I actually didn’t want to publish any of my stories. It is a very humbling experience, and, at times, can be a very painful/embarrassing experience.  My husband (ever-positive Johnny) says you never know unless you try.  He is so proud of my books, and so confident, that he pushes and pushes, and is still pushing to this day, but I am still that scared little person hanging on tight to each story, wanting them to be sold, but scared that they will be rejected.  It is a double-edged sword.

I have one little memory that does keep me going.  I had signed a book for a young person one day, and I signed it, “Your friend”.  He was so happy, and told me he loved my book so much, I was speechless. That made everything worth it (all of the hard work, all of the money spent, etc.) at that one beautiful moment.

Star Jumpers: The Lion Roars by Zoe Baxter

Four Teens: One Quest: A World of Magic and Adventure

It was no ordinary zipwire flight. Thrust into the magical world of Hadrixia, flame-haired Zara Bulmer and her three teenage companions must thwart the Dark Ruler of Hadrixia in their quest to locate the Stone of Exerith. The fate of the Empire depends on their success…and safe return to Star Camp.

On their journey, the foursome must tangle with vicious creatures like the horn-headed Warnoks and the venomous web-tailed Tarquids. Will they succumb to the persuasive chants of the fire-loving Brozigs or be mauled to death by the tree-swinging Harnts?

The friends join forces with Hadrixian teenager, Quinn, and encounter the kindness of Semyon, an aged wizard potionmaker.

Will Zara fulfil the destiny bestowed upon her before the sun sets on the last day of July? Or will the Portwall to the Outside remain sealed, imprisoning the four intrepid teenagers in Hadrixia, consigning them to a future of chaos, destruction, or even death?

There’s only one way to find out:
Welcome to the perilous world of Hadrixia…

My Review

4 Stars

While on a zipwire flight, four teens are transported to the magical world of Hadrixia. Hadrixia is under the control of a Dark Lord and it is up to Zara, Oscar, Fergus and Aimie to stop him. The former emperor and his eldest son, Max and Rufus, have chosen the teens and are not initially impressed when they first meet them. None of the teens really knows the other and are filled with their own self-doubt but as they progress along in their quest they learn of their own strengths and how to work together.

This is a great story for teens and even middle grade readers. You have four very different teens that are thrown into an adventure with fierce creatures and trying to save the world. I love how no one is really impressed with Zara yet she rises to her duty as a leader in all aspects.

If you like a great YA fantasy you need to check this book out. There is a little bit of everything from magical worlds, creatures, and the darkness that wants to rule. I think this is a great start to the series and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

I would like to thank Rachel’s Random Resources for the opportunity to read and share this book.
