Sister of Mine by Laurie Petrou
A debut novel of domestic suspense in the vein of Liane Moriarty, Shari Lapena and Claire Douglas about two sisters bound together by a murder
Penny and Hattie have always only had each other—their father left long ago and their mother died in a sudden tragic accident. Penny has always watched out for Hattie, even when she felt usurped by her younger, more vivacious sibling. When Penny’s marriage turns sour and her once-charming husband becomes controlling and abusive, who does she turn to for help but Hattie? An unguarded cigarette, helped along by a few conveniently lit matches and some sleeping pills, creates a deadly fire that frees Penny from an unimaginable life, but not without a cost. The weight of their secret binds the two sisters together, for better or worse. When a new man enters their lives, the twists deepen and the secrets compound. Meanwhile, incidents of arson begin to break out locally and the detective who investigated the death of Penny’s husband develops renewed interest in the case, threatening to unravel all their secrets.

Most of my adventures take place inside books. I am, I think, part Hobbit: I love my books, my armchair, my garden… but I am not at all stealth (was once described as a Clydesdale for the way I clomp around the house).
My 2nd book, Sister of Mine, won the inaugural Half the World Award, and was released in Canada in April, 2018 with HarperCollins and in August 2018 with Crooked Lane Books. I cannot wait for you to read it!
My Review

Penny and Hattie are sisters that have had a rough go. Their father left early and they mother died so it has been the girls surviving on their own. Penny goes on to be married then her husband becomes abusive and an accident leaves her a widow and living at her childhood home with Hattie. Things seem to be going well until a new man comes into the women’s lives and starts to turn sister against sister. Then several fires are making the police interested in the fire that killed Penny’s husband.
Sisters have a bond where one minute you want to kill each other and the next you love them dearly. No matter what Penny and Hattie has secrets they share but with pressure from a man and the police increasing those secrets may come spilling out. The question is if they are going to be each other’s undoing.
This was a good book that started out a little rough. It took me a little bit to get into the story but once I did I couldn’t put the book down. It was almost like watching a train wreck. I knew something bad was going to happen but I just couldn’t look away. Sister of Mine is a good read and one to check out.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
