The Dragon’s Glare

The Dragon’s Glare (The Survival Trilogy – 2) by TJ & MJ Wolf

In 2019, three years after recovery of a powerful Hopi artifact from a mystery cave in Arizona, Una Waters finds herself on special assignment from D.C. to Chinatown in New York City. Unexplained acts of violence, including a cyber breach at the NYPD threaten to disrupt the lives of immigrants, forcing military intervention from General Ashcroft, now with U.S. Cyber Security. When newshound and compadre Jack Howser arrives to investigate a reported UFO sighting, Una begins to realize an episode of “missing time” at the Chinese New Year’s parade may hold the answers. Finally, an out-of-this-world encounter confirms Una’s childhood beliefs in Sky People, hinting that our future lies in accepting the fact that we are not alone.

It has been three years since Una Waters took a Hopi artifact to keep it safe. She has since returned to her job in Washington DC but finds herself being sent to Chinatown in New York to check out some cyber-crimes. While there Una meets up with Jack Howser and General Ashcroft again. But when she realizes that she is missing time from the Chinese New Year Parade she realizes that something beyond our world is happening again.

In A Gleam of Light, we learn about the Hopi culture and aliens. In The Dragon’s Glare we are introduced to Chinese dragons and aliens. I love learning about new cultures especially their mythology. This helps to broaden our knowledge as we learn that there are more than one race of aliens and that they are not all friendly and want to share this planet.

This book has a little bit for everyone, especially if you believe in aliens and love mythology. There is also a lot of action that is going to keep you on the edge of your seat. I really like how The Dragon’s Glare did not fall into the typical middle book in a trilogy. The story just keeps getting better and I can’t wait to see how this is going to end.

In The Edge of Sanity we return to the dark net. The Smart Man and Professor has created a new drug and are testing it out on the dark net to get people interested. But buyers have to pass a series of puzzles to be able to get to the drug.

Then you have Pete Harris. He has retired and living with his daughter and working on a relationship with Grace Brooks. That is until he is drug back to the dark web when Olivia and Grace are kidnapped and he has to play the game to get them back.

This is a dark and twisted ride into the darker corners of human behavior based on real life. Although the story is about drugs being created and sold to cartels it also involves the evils committed on the dark web. There are some dark and brutal things you will find here but if that is what you are looking for you have come to the right place.

Along with the drugs we find Peter has returned and how he has to jump back into the dark web to save his own daughter and girlfriend. I’m sad to see him back but if anyone has to tackle those in the dark web he has the experience.

This is a great continuation of Enter the Dark. You can read The Edge of Sanity as a standalone book but you will get more buy reading both books. I loved The Edge of Sanity as much as I did Enter the Dark. If you like your thrillers dark and bloody you need to check these books out. Now I can’t wait to see what Chris Thomas is going to come up with next.

When Rebecca Smith is six years old she is abused by her ballet instructor. He is never prosecuted but Rebecca is not about to let the abuse go. Detective Inspector Gareth Gravel, Grav feels like he let Rebecca down. Rebecca is now twenty three and taking out her justice on those that abuse kids. Grav is on a mandatory vacation when body parts are found on a beach. Then more start showing up. It is going to be up to Grav to find the killer.

This is a dark, dirty thriller. There are some well written scenes that could bother some people. Of course I ate this book up. I feel horrible for Rebecca yet I comment her on taking care of the child abusers. I understood why she goes on the hunt and although wrong, it’s hard to fault her.

Grav is a rough, hard detective that I think of as an upset porcupine. His is bristles and bark but he knows his job and is really good at it. But what is he up against with Rebecca working on the force and deleting crucial evidence. This is a gruesome game of cat and mouse that is hard to simply say Rebecca did it punish her. Sometime a vigilante is needed, the key is how far they take it.

I loved this story. It’s my kind of book, dark and gritty. This is my first book from John Nicholl but it will not be my last.
