Bearly Departed
As autumn air settles into the quaint small town of Silver Hollow,
there’s nothing more popular than Sasha’s teddy bears—and
murder in cold blood . . .
Silver Bear Shop and Factory manager Sasha Silverman is cozying up to the
fall season by hosting Silver Hollow’s Cranbeary Tea Party, the
opening event of the village’s Oktobear Fest—a too-cute
celebration themed around teddy bears. She barely has a moment to
agonize over the return of her former high school rival, Holly
Parker, whose new toy and bookstore in town could spell big trouble
for the Silver Bear Shop and her cousin’s small bookstore . . .
But when Sasha discovers Holly’s shop assistant dead with a knife
plunged in her body, the unpleasant woman suddenly looks like a real
backstabber. So does Sasha’s ex-husband, rumored to have rekindled
the fiery extramarital affair he once had with the victim. Now,
before a gruesome homicide case takes the fun out of both the Fest
and her personal life, Sasha must identify the true culprit from a
daunting suspect list—or risk becoming as lifeless as one of her
stuffed bears . . .

It is fall in Silver Hollow and time for the Cranbeary Tea Party and the Oktobear Feast. While hosting the Cranbeary Tea Party Sasha is surprised to see her long time rival Holly Parker has moved back into town and opened a toy store and book store. But if that was not enough, Sasha’s ex is with Holly and they make a huge scene.

Later that night, Sasha and Maddie discover Holly’s shop assistant, Gina has been stabbed. Gina was wearing some of Holly’s clothes. The question is who killed Gina and if they meant to kill her or Holly. Sasha jumps into investigating the murderer before someone else turns up dead.

This is a great cozy mystery and second in the series. I loved coming back to Silver Hollow and the Silver Bear Shop and Factory. Sasha seems to be getting her life back on track until the appearance of Holly and Flynn. Of course Sasha is concerned because Holly’s business spells danger for Sasha and her cousin’s book store.

Gina had a past so of course we don’t really know who the killer was going after. I was kept on my toes and was completely surprised by the ending. I loved this book and think anyone that enjoys a cozy mystery should check this series out.

Murder
in Morningside Heights
The Silver Bear Shop and Factory might be the cutest place around, but
there’s nothing warm and fuzzy about murder . . .
As manager of the family teddy bear shop and factory,
thirty-one-year-old Sasha Silverman leads a charmed life. Well,
except for the part about being a single divorcée with a ticking
biological clock in small-town Silver Hollow. And that’s just kid’s
stuff compared to Will Taylor, the sales rep who’s set on making
drastic changes to the business her parents built from scratch—with
or without Sasha’s approval . . .
But before Will digs his claws in, someone pulls the stuffing out of his
plan . . . and leaves his dead body inside the factory. Reeling from
shock, Sasha’s hit with more bad news—police suspect her
hot-tempered Uncle Ross may have murdered him. Sasha knows her uncle
would never do such a thing, and she’s launching her own little
investigation to expose the truth. As she tracks Will’s biggest
rivals and enemies for clues, Sasha can’t get too comfy—or she’ll
become the next plaything for a killer . . .
A twisty mystery tale with a likable protagonist and a colorful
supporting cast. Sure to be a very enjoyable series!”—Livia J.

The small town of Silver Hollow is the home of the Silver Bear Shop, a family run teddy bear factory. Sasha Silverman has just gone through a divorce and has returned home to the family shop. Her parents have retired from the shop and left the running of the business in Sasha’s hands along with her sister Maddie and Uncle Ross. But she has one big hurtle, sales man Will Taylor who is trying to take control behind Sasha’s back.

Will announces that the production of the teddy bears is going to be sent overseas to the uproar of the whole factory. But that will come back to bit him when later that night Sasha and Maddie find Will’s body. If that was not scandal enough, the police believe Uncle Ross is the killer. So Sasha decides to take it upon herself to look into the murder of Will.

I love the setting with the wonderful little town and the teddy bear shop. I love Sasha, Maddie, and Ross. They work well together and help draw you into the mystery. I liked the mystery but did not really have me really guessing.

This is a great start to a new cozy mystery series. I liked the cute town and shop and can’t wait to find out what Sasha is going to get into next.

Promises and Primroses

Promises and Primroses by Josi S. Kilpack

Lord Elliott Mayfield aims to correct the very messy marital mistakes and spousal scandals of his brothers and sisters by requiring his nieces and nephews to choose worthy companions.  If they choose wisely, they will receive their generous share of the family’s inheritance.

Peter, Elliott’s eldest nephew, thinks the entire idea is ridiculous. A widower with two young daughters, he simply needs a governess, not a wife. Julia Hollingsworth certainly has the credentials and the experience, but is altogether too young and pretty for such a job. So why can’t he stop thinking about her?

Julia loves working as a governess, despite the objections of her mother, Amelia. And as it turns out, Amelia has a lot to say about the Mayfield men—none of it good. But Julia dismisses the rumors of ruined reputations and instead concentrates on helping Peter with his children and his fledgling business in canine husbandry. His kindness and gentleness is endearing—and increasingly attractive.

But Amelia, whose heart was broken thirty years ago by none other than Elliott Mayfield, is determined to prevent any relationship from blooming either between Peter and Julia—or between herself and Elliott.

Hearts and history collide as both couples must face their pasts and decide if risking it all is worth the promise of new love and a new future.

Lord Elliot Mayfield has decided that he is going to help out his nieces and nephews with their lives. He comes up with a proposal for them if they expect to inherit their portion of the family legacy. This story is about his nephew Peter, a widower with two young daughters. Peter hires Julia Hollingsworth to be a governess with the strict belief that she will never be more than that.

Julia has no plans to have a relationship with Peter and even though she doesn’t need a job, she enjoys the girls and helping Peter with his dog husbandry. But she finds herself wanting to spend more and more time with Peter. Her mother Amelia is determined to keep the two of them apart. But she has her own secret about Elliot Mayfield.

This was a great, sweet story with two pair of broken hearts trying everything they could to keep from falling in love again. Peter directs his loss of his wife into the dog breeding and Julia is perfect for his daughters. Of course Amelia is bound a determined to keep Julia from going through the same heartache that she went through. I understood her but at the same time wanted to slap her upside the head.

Over all this is not one of my normal reads and a first from Josi Kilpack. But I think I will be checking her other books out very soon. This is definitely one book that you need to read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
