The Empath

The Alterealm Series Book 3

A century of questions brought no answers, until now.

A century always on the move, never aging and not being able to form relationships, Alona has far more questions than answers. Absorbing the emotional turmoil of others is bad enough, with the headaches, nausea and blackouts, but it is the loneliness that is a never-ending ache.

A bizarre encounter with a crazy-erratic redhead in a nightclub brings her the promise of answers, if only she can open her mind to the possibilities.  Life will change in ways she never thought possible, or could ever imagine.

My Review

5 stars

Alona has been on this earth for almost 100 years and doesn’t know what she is. She craved blood yet blood makes her sick, she is taller than most men, and she picks up on emotions. Then an excited red head shows up and changes Alona’s life forever. Alone was born during the Spanish Influenza. Her mother had been mated but he never returned. Ten years later she died and Alona has been on her own since. But she has been stalked by some people that would like to use her abilities to turn the tides in the Alterealm.

Alona has had to figure things out on her own for many years. She doesn’t know what she is but she didn’t expect her world to turn upside down with one crazy person. She does hit the ground running and takes the news about her heritage well. But this is not a happy family reunion. The other side is still gathering troops for a takeover and have approached Alona about being on their side.

This is a great addition to the Alterealm series. Alona wants to break my heart for what she has gone through but I love how she finds her place in this new world. She is a strong female character and not about to let the guys push her around.

I love this series and strongly recommend checking it out. I can’t wait to get into The Witch and see what trouble we are going to find ourselves in next.

The Witch: The Alterealm Series by [Risk, J.]

The Witch

The Alterealm Series Book 4

Doing a favor for your best friend never works out.

Finding a best friend and roommate in Erin, Bethany agrees to use her magic to help a group of Erin’s new friends. But something told her that things were off, and now she’s got to use her powers to get her friend back.

Sharing a small apartment and struggling to survive was far better than being locked away with no word of Erin, and a niggling feeling that the stories she was told aren’t the truth.

Discovering another realm, learning about her powers and making things right, Bethany must make amends for all she did wrong, no matter the consequences.

My Review

5 stars

Beth made a deal with Marcus to save Erin. She has some memorizing abilities and has been messing with the mind of Leone and has been part of the plot to kidnap him and exchange him for Erin. But Beth has no idea what she is getting herself into until she starts talking to Leone and learns that she is in a bad place and has been used. Although she is focused on getting Erin she might not be able to. Then there is Leone. He is recovering from human essence abuse and knows he is not going to be able to wait out the ransom. He needs to feed yet can’t and will be stuck with Beth.

I love this series! You can’t help but feel for Beth, she is trying to do anything to save Erin even if that means doing stuff for Marcus when she knows he is bad. But she can’t play innocent for long when she learns the truth form Leone. But I loved how she was willing to do what needed to be done to set things right. Of course she has her hands full with Leone and his issues.

It is so easy to get into these stories yet hard to leave them at the end. I really enjoy meeting the new characters and seeing how everyone links up. It sure changed my opinion of Erin too. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I guess I am going to have to check out other books written by Jacqueline Paige to keep me entertained while I wait.

About the Author

Risk is a pseudonym used by Author Jacqueline Paige (Multi-published Paranormal Romance author of The Magic Seasons series, The Hidden Senses Trilogy, The Dream Series and more)

I wanted to write a story that would fit into new adult levels as well as adult. Something that was serious with fun elements–paranormal / fantasy that everyone could read and enjoy.

I’ve decided to use J. Risk as the pen name for this to separate this series from my other writing which is definitely adult reading material.

Jacqueline Paige lives in Ontario in a small town that’s part of the popular Georgian Triangle area.

She began her writing career in 2006 and since her first published works in 2009 she hasn’t stopped. Jacqueline describes her writing as “all things paranormal”, which she has proven is her niche with stories of witches, ghosts, physics and shifters now on the shelves.

When Jacqueline isn’t lost in her writing she spends time with her five children, most of whom are finally able to look after her instead of the other way around. Together they do random road trips, that usually end up with them lost, shopping trips where they push every button in the toy aisle, hiking when there’s enough time to escape and bizarre things like creating new daring recipes in the kitchen. She’s a grandmother to four (so far) and looks forward to corrupting many more in the years to come.

What are you most looking forward to for the new release and how is this release and book different from the first two?
by Alysson Foti Bourque
I am looking forward to meeting new smiling faces at upcoming book events and hearing their thoughts on this new Alycat book. Reconnecting with Alycat fans who have followed this journey from the beginning is always a joy too. I love to see them open the new book for the first time. It’s like reconnecting with an old friend.
Alycat and the Friendship Friday is different from the first two books as Alycat has more grown up features and big kid problems to resolve. In my head, this book is secretly called Alycat 3.0 (yeah, I know it’s cheesy). It’s the third book with an updated look and a few new characters. I like to think that Alycat is growing up with her readers.
I am also looking forward to an epic book tour along the Gulf Coast states. For the first two books, we have visited multiple states from Louisiana to Tennessee. This time we are headed southeast to Florida. We will start in Louisiana and head to Barnes & Noble Destin, FL, then head to Sundog Books in Seaside, FL. After a few days in Disneyworld, we will come back to Baton Rouge, LA for the Louisiana Book Festival where I will be a featured author.

Inside the Whispers (Dr. Samantha Willerby – 1) by AJ Waines

The most dangerous place is inside your own head…

Dr Samantha Willerby, a specialist in Post Traumatic Stress, has never seen anything like this before. Following a fire on the London Underground, three survivors seek her help – but although unmistakably traumatised, their stories don’t match the facts. Are they ‘faking it’? Sam’s confusion turns to horror when one by one, instead of recovering, they are driven to suicide.

When her lover, Conrad, begins to suffer the same terrifying flashbacks, Sam is desperate to find out what’s causing them. As a mysterious and chilling conspiracy begins to unravel the nightmares begin for Sam…

My Review

4 stars

Samantha Willerby is a psychologist that specializes in trauma victims. She has three clients that are suffering from the same event, a fire in the tubes below London. But there was no fire and the stories are not adding up. But then one of her clients can’t live with the survivor’s guilt and commits suicide, then another and the other. Sam feels guilty that she didn’t see the warning signs of suicide but doesn’t have time to explore this when her boyfriend starts having the same visions of the tube fire. Then she does.

I was instantly curious about this book after reading that description. I loved how easy it is to get sucked into this story. I mean I was so curious about how three people can be traumatized by an event that didn’t happen. The mind is a very interesting thing in how it can behave. Then there is the mystery/thriller twist that kept me on the edge of my seat. And just went you think you know what is happening, BAM! Surprise twist on the last page.

This is an amazing start to a new series. I come to love Sam as the story went along. I am very excited to read the next book in this series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
