Guest Post – The Accident
I tend to like writing that is a little dark in nature, and I’ve tried to pinpoint why that’s true. I can’t say that I had anything really traumatic happen to me when I was young, other than the accident.
When I was a kid (probably only in first grade), my uncle took me to school one day. Except, he really didn’t take me to school. Not at all. He decided to play hooky and take me to the beach which sounded just fine to me.
Our van was stopped at a red light when the car behind us plowed into us.
I don’t remember much. Mainly the color blue, because I was lying on the asphalt and looking up at the blue sky. When I became aware of my surroundings, I remember that I was lying in fragments of glass, the van was upside down, and my foot was a mess. The fireman who bent down to remove my shoe was very encouraging, but when I saw my foot, I knew that it was bad. And it was. My toes were hanging off, but thanks to a lot of stitches, all is well now.
My uncle was fine, too. And so was his dog, Scotch, who was in the car with us.
I don’t know if it traumatized me, but recently, a woman asked me if I had something traumatic happen to me when I was young that might have ignited my imagination.
It was an interesting question. I had never been asked it before.
But I suppose my answer would be the accident, if I had to give one.
Eddie Dees is an author that has some money and moves his family from Washington to California. Never having been to Naples Island before, the family doesn’t really know what to think about the increasingly stronger storms that they are experiencing. But strange thing things are happening like disappearance of the family dog and other things.
Then Eddie and his family run into Klutch, an army vet with issues that believes the storms have become weaponized since it is contained to the island and anyone that tries to leave is killed by lightning. It has become a race against time to try and figure out a way off the island before the storm or the people kill everyone.
This is the first story of William Michael Davidson’s that I have read and I really enjoyed it. Although it was a slow start when things started to go wrong they went wrong in the worst way possible. I was kept on pins and needles as I was hoping that Eddie and his family would survive this storm or if their neighbors would be the end of them.
This was a great thriller and one I recommend checking out. Now I’m really excited to read other books from William Michael Davidson.
