The Passion Season (Covalent – 1) by Libby Doyle
A superhuman warrior from another dimension. An FBI agent with a troubled past. A search for a killer that uncovers a sacrificial cult.
When Special Agent Zan O’Gara investigates a ritual murder, she meets the only man who’s ever been able to reach beyond her emotional defenses. Little does she know he harbors a dangerous secret.
Barakiel accepted his solitary life after the rulers of his homeworld banished him to Earth, but his growing power has him crackling with restless need. He knows he should stay away from the captivating Zan O’Gara before his enemies make her a target. No matter. There’s no taming the unruly passion of a Covalent warrior.
As Zan’s investigation brings her closer to the truth about her lover, Barakiel realizes his presence on Earth has placed its most vulnerable citizens in danger. Compelled to protect them, he undertakes a series of duties he may not survive, even as Zan rescues him from a deadened heart.

My Review
4 Stars
This book takes a scientific approach to good and evil, angels and demons. Lucifer has snapped and determined to fight the other Covalent’s after his banishment. His obsessive focus has lead him to banish his own son, Barakiel to the Earthly plane. He has spent many hundred years on this earth but no one has really mattered until he met Zan O’Gara.
Zan, Alexandra, O’Gara is a Special Agent investigating a ritual murder. She has a broken past and determined to not let anyone in. Well that is until she meets Barakiel. The hit it off instantly, and several times throughout the book. But they have found someone that they could have a life with. If Barakiel could only tell Zan the truth.
This is a great read. I liked how religion and science mixed together to form the world of the Covalent. It was explained in a way that made sense yet not too heavy on the science. After discovering his mother eviscerated, I couldn’t blame Barakiel for leaving hell. Its clear Lucifer has lost his mind and wants Barakiel on his side of this fight.
Zan was a great, tough woman. I really enjoy female lead characters that can stand on their own two feet and not need a man to protect or coddle them. Of course the two hit it off and spend almost as much time in bed as finding the killer. I admit that I don’t mind some sex in books but this took it a bit too far. I think I had to skip half of the book just to solve the murders.
Overall this is a great paranormal romance with lots of sex. I think it was a good start to the series and I am interested in where it is going from here.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
