Dragonwatch: Wrath of the Dragon King (Dragonwatch – 2) by Brandon Mull
War has come to the dragon sanctuaries of the world and nowhere is the danger more intense than at Wyrmroost. Armed with information from a new ally Ronodin, the dark unicorn Celebrant seeks a legendary talisman the dominion stone.
However, the powerful stone is protected by a cursed castle. Upon entering the castle fortress, an unyielding power strips all magical beings of their power and forces Celebrant to take his human avatar form. Kendra and Seth must enter the cursed castle as well. The race is on. Will the two young caretakers rally enough support from the creatures of Wyrmroost against the greatest threat the magical community has faced in ages? Can they foil Celebrant’s plan and beat him to the mighty dominion stone? Or will all hope be shattered by the wrath of the Dragon King?

My Review
5 stars
Celebrant, King of Dragons, has suffered a loss at the hands of Kendra and Seth. But he is not going to let that stop him. He heads to the Wyrmroost preserve and the cursed castle. He heard a rumor that there was a talisman called the dominion stone and he is determined to get it and end Kendra and Seth. But the kids are not about to let that happen. They head right into the castle and take up the challenges with a powerless Celebrant. It’s going to be up to their wit and friendships with the magical creatures to help them win the prize and stop Celebrant again.
I started reading the Fablehaven series years ago but admit that I didn’t finish reading them. But I couldn’t pass up the chance to read Dragonwatch. I didn’t realize that this was the second book in the series but that didn’t stop me from jumping right into the story and having no problem keeping up.
Kendra and Seth have grown up a little more but they find themselves in trouble and needing to protect both the sanctuaries and the world outside. Celebrant hates the refuges and wants to turn the world back to how it used to be. Since he was beaten previously he has decided t go after the dominion stone to make sure that he is not beaten a second time. But this is not going to be easy since all of his powers are neutralized when he steps into the castle. This puts him on a more even playing field with Kendra and Seth. But that doesn’t mean that they are simply going to swoop in and save the day. This is going to be a fight.
I loved this book and now I want to go back and re-read/finish the Fablehaven series and start with the first book in this series. This is a great series for all ages and is a great addition to my keep bookshelf.
