A creature lying dormant beneath the Earth’s crust for over 35,000 years, waits patiently to transform a dying young boy into one of mankind’s greatest leaders in a time of dire need.
In the year 2140 CE, Planet 9, more commonly known as Vixus, has resurfaced on the edge of the Milky Way… the only known planet that periodically reverses its rotation. Last seen in the middle of the Kuiper Belt in 2066 CE, it mysteriously disappeared after being discovered by a Galactic Corps scout ship. The unknown energy source enabling Vixus to spin in opposite directions represented great power which could help turn the tide in a war Earth was losing.
The Fighting Fury, the Corps’ finest platoon, has been called in to conduct a search and rescue operation for several missing landing parties. Following a fierce battle on the planet surface, Lieutenant Janet “Cat” Miles, leader of this elite group of combat women, was captured. She soon found herself imprisoned with the Corps’ most fabled leader, Commander Jason Cody. His name would forever be linked to the infamous wormhole hidden on Neptune’s dark side; an area of space now cautiously avoided by all due to the menace which lurks within.
Paranoia raced through both leaders’ minds. Could he trust a woman who seemingly had no imperfections? Could she trust a man who had vanished from sight years ago? Earth’s future laid in the balance as they struggled to overcome their mutual distrust and acknowledge what those before them understood: “If you live long enough, the wisdom will come.”

The Cat Who Pawed the Cultist
Sanctum Guardians Book 1
by Robert Hazelton
Genre: YA Urban Fantasy
Charlotte Barreau has tried to maintain a low key lifestyle but it isn’t easy
for a young witch. As a student of the Holstrom Sanctum, she’s
studied the intricacies of magic but never had to apply them to
anything of importance. Her biggest concerns involve finding a movie
she hasn’t seen, spending time with her friend Avery, and passing
magical physics. All that changes when she meets a feisty orange cat
attempting to foil the plot of a cultist opening a portal to another
world. This magical beast comes to her with a calling, a duty to
defend our world against denizens of a dangerous realm called the
Umbra Oculus. Charlotte finds herself inextricably bound to her new
friend, a partner in his crusade. As they begin to investigate, they
find themselves dangerously outmatched. Their opponents are fully
trained, adult wizards with serious zeal for their work. Even after
enlisting the aid of two additional students, they discover they may
not be cut out for the task. But with no one else working on the
problem, these children and their cat must save the world, even as
they risk their very lives in the effort.
Robert Hazelton has been writing short fiction, novels and music his entire
life. As the founding member of Deadly Nightshade Botanical Society
and a long time member of the band Abney Park, he has traveled
extensively and performed countless shows in exotic locales.
Robert writes in a variety of genres but keeps drifting back to modern
fantasy/horror. He considers Elizabeth Moon, Frank Herbert, and
Steven Pressfield to be his biggest influences.
My Review
5 Stars

Charlotte Barreau tries to keep a low key life, especially after she is discovered with her parents murdered and her mind wiped clean. She is a fifth year student at Holstrom Sanctum and just gets by with her friend Avery and learning about magic. But one day she gets this strange feeling and investigates. This leads her to a man trying to open a demonic portal and Blaise.

Blaise is a Sanctum Guardian that is protecting this world from the nasties in the realm Umbra Oculus. But despite Blaises bravo, he is a young cat. Together it is up to Charlotte and Blaise to stop the portal from opening. And along the way Charlotte may just learn about herself too.

This is a great paranormal story. A wonderfully developed world with snarky characters just like I enjoy. Blaise reminds me of my cats and had me chuckling through this adventure. I was quickly drawn in when Blaise tells Charlotte about her connection to old magic and just made me turn the pages as fast as I could to find out what is really going on.

I recommend checking out this book. I loved it and can’t wait for the next book in the series. I didn’t realize that I had read a couple of Robert Hazelton’s others books. I think I need to check out the other ones while I wait for more from Charlotte and Blaise.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
