for a young witch. As a student of the Holstrom Sanctum, she’s
studied the intricacies of magic but never had to apply them to
anything of importance. Her biggest concerns involve finding a movie

magical physics. All that changes when she meets a feisty orange cat

fantasy/horror. He considers Elizabeth Moon, Frank Herbert, and

Charlotte Barreau tries to keep a low key life, especially after she is discovered with her parents murdered and her mind wiped clean. She is a fifth year student at Holstrom Sanctum and just gets by with her friend Avery and learning about magic. But one day she gets this strange feeling and investigates. This leads her to a man trying to open a demonic portal and Blaise.
Blaise is a Sanctum Guardian that is protecting this world from the nasties in the realm Umbra Oculus. But despite Blaises bravo, he is a young cat. Together it is up to Charlotte and Blaise to stop the portal from opening. And along the way Charlotte may just learn about herself too.
This is a great paranormal story. A wonderfully developed world with snarky characters just like I enjoy. Blaise reminds me of my cats and had me chuckling through this adventure. I was quickly drawn in when Blaise tells Charlotte about her connection to old magic and just made me turn the pages as fast as I could to find out what is really going on.
I recommend checking out this book. I loved it and can’t wait for the next book in the series. I didn’t realize that I had read a couple of Robert Hazelton’s others books. I think I need to check out the other ones while I wait for more from Charlotte and Blaise.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
