Last Summer by Kerry Lonsdale
From the Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Everything series comes a new novel of love, lies, and deceit.
Lifestyle journalist Ella Skye remembers every celebrity she interviewed, every politician she charmed between the sheets, and every socialite who eyed her with envy. The chance meeting with her husband, Damien; their rapid free fall into love; and their low-key, intimate wedding are all locked in her memory. But what she can’t remember is the tragic car accident that ripped her unborn child from her. Ella can’t even recall being pregnant.
Hoping to find the memories of a lost pregnancy that’s left her husband devastated and their home empty, Ella begins delving into her past when she’s assigned an exclusive story about Nathan Donovan, a retired celebrity adventurer who seems to know more about her than she does him. To unravel the mystery of her selective memory loss, Ella follows Nathan from the snowcapped Sierra Nevada to the frozen slopes of southeast Alaska. There she discovers the people she trusts most aren’t the only ones keeping secrets from her—she’s hiding them from herself. Ella quickly learns that some truths are best left forgotten.

My Review
4 stars
Ella Skye wakes up in the emergency room with no memory of the car wreck that put her there or the loss of her unborn baby. When she asks about what happens, those around her brush her off. Since Ella is a journalist she is determined to find out the truth. She looks to her last story on Nathan Donovan, a celebrity adventurer. He seems to know more about Ella than she does. The question is if Ella is ready to learn all about the secrets from those around her along with her own.
I admit when I first read the blurb to this book I did an eye roll. How many books are out there where the main character loses her memory and has to go digging to learn the truth? Initially this book starts out the same way. But then you get rolling and what I thought might happen was so far from the truth that I was hooked.
This book is full of twists and turns and had me guessing the whole while. I admit that I really didn’t like Damien and was curious about how Ella would be pregnant when it was clear that he didn’t want children. When I read about Nathan I figured oh, here is the missing piece. I was so very, very wrong.
This is a great story that kept me on my toes through the whole thing. This is the first book from Kerry Lonsdale and I really enjoyed it and although I’m not a fan of contemporary romances I would check out her other books. If this is your genera then I recommend checking this one out. You may find your new favorite author.
