Grace Michelle is a costume designer in 1924 Hollywood. She also owns a ranch with her husband and rescues racehorses and troubled children. Although she tries to keep the kids separate from her work, she finds herself hosting a Hollywood even for the director, Edward Travis, of the movie she is working on. Unfortunately, at the dinner the Travis is found dead and Lizzy, one of her wards, is blamed.
But there is so much more going on with the story. Travis had a second wife and many dalliances. Lizzy and her sister Margaret are having a fight and Lizzy finds herself being charged with her murder too. Grace is trying to find a way to clear Lizzy of the charges, but it seems the harder she tries to help the more tangled this mystery becomes.
I have not read the first book in this series, but I had no problem hopping into this story. Grace has some issues, but she is trying her hardest at work, on the ranch, and with her husband and kids. I instantly liked her and felt heartbroken for what she was going through.
I love how she just kept fighting to prove that Lizzy was innocent and get to the bottom of the mystery. I couldn’t read fast enough to learn what happens next and had a hard time putting the book down. I never expected the ending and I just loved how it wrapped everything up.
If you are looking for a great mystery, I recommend checking out Grace in Hollywood. I can’t wait to go back and catch up on what I missed with Grave in the Wings.
