Nikki Bryant is a killer investigative journalist living in Las Vegas with her rescue dog Elmo. When she learns that her mother is retiring from the television station Nikki decides to return to her small hometown, Pine Grove, Pennsylvania.
When Nikki gets into town she learns that her first love has now become her step brother and her nemesis, Ashleigh Addison is a reporter that teases about a huge scoop she has. Nikki thinks that the story may be related to her father’s cold case. But Ashleigh ends up dead before she can reveal her story.
Nikki is a top notch journalist that is determined to find out who killed Ashleigh and her father. She also has to come to terms with her relationship with Ryan, the whole step brother thing is a bit creepy and all. Then you have NerdyGuy. I had some guesses about him and I was very curious about the reveal of him.
But Nikki is determined to find out who the killers are. She is strong willed and unstoppable, my kind of lady. But I have to say it, Elmo stole the show. Animals and kids will always be the shining star. I wish my cats could take after him and start cleaning up after themselves.
This is a fantastic start to a new mystery series for Lauren Carr. I loved the other books but this is a whole new world and I am excited to see where we will go from here. I strongly recommend any mystery lover check out any of Lauren Carr’s books.
