Knights of Kismera by Tamara Hartl
I reviewed book three, Keeper of the Dragon’s Tears back in March. You can find my review here. I really enjoyed the story and when I was asked to review the first two books in the series I couldn’t say yes fast enough.
Dark Lord of Kismera (Book 1)
Easy-going Drace MacKinnon loves his job playing a hero knight in an equestrian themed dinner theater in Las Vegas. Fate, a dragon and an ancient god have other plans for him. Abducted by magic, Drace is thrust into the medieval world of the Were, shape-shifting warriors. Leading them is the woman warrior, Ki, whose spirit matches the lioness she can become. While beautiful, she is also arrogant and deadly. Forced together to fight an old enemy of her people, love becomes their destiny. A love that is hard to keep.

Drace MacKinnon plays the Dark Knight in a Las Vegas dinner show. One night he discovers that he has a new squire Vashi and something goes wrong in his performance. He wakes to find that Vashi is really an elven sorceress and she was sent to get Drace. He is needed to fight with the Lady Ki to save her home from invaders from the south. As they fight a connection happens between Ki and Drace. But fate doesn’t have them staying together too long when Drace is injured and has to return home to be cured.
This book is filled with a little bit of everything. Traveling between planes, fighting invaders, and the love between a lion shifter and human. Drace adapts really well to his new surrounding and is willing to help out Lady Ki. Ki is a strong, independent woman yet the perfect match for Drace. And when Drace was hurt, I was hoping that he would find his way back to Ki.
This is a great fantasy story with the perfect balance of romance and action. This is one to check out. Since I read Keepr of the Dragon’s Tears I was excited to see how this series first started and I was not disappointed. I can’t wait to get into Lexin’s Quest.
Lexin’s Quest (Book 2)
Called back from Oralia to serve the High King, Lexin of Bellmore is sent on a quest for a lost son long thought dead. The seemingly futile quest is made more difficult by secrets Lexin has learned prior to his departure, ones that alienate him from kin and any hope for love. Cerise MacKinnon is kinswoman to the Dark Lord of Kismera and his wife Ki, ruler of Oralia. With feelings for Lexin left unexplored when he departed for the High Kingdom, Cerise uses her viable talents to ensconce herself in the castle in order to contribute to the prosperity of Oralia. When Lexin returns, seeking aid in his search, Cerise finds a way to insert herself into the mission, hoping to rekindle the spark between them.

Lexin of Bellmore is called to help the High King. The king’s son, thought to be dead may just be alive and Lexin is given the task of finding him. But Lexin has some information that adds to this little adventure. Then there is Cersie. Something has put a strain on her relationship with Lexin. When he returns to find the king’s son Cersie does what she does best and finds a place for herself in his adventure. She is bound and determined to get back together with Lexin no matter what.
After reading Dark Lord I was really curious at what had come between Lexin and Cersie. What better way to reconnect than going on this adventure together. I really felt for Cersie, she loves Lexin so much but just can’t figure out what has come between them. Of course both seem to be missing the most obvious events happening between the two of them but that just makes the romance that much sweeter.
Lexin’s Quest could be read as a standalone story but you get so much more when you read the books in order. This is an amazing world that I can’t wait to read more about. If you like fantasy with romance then you really need to check out this series.
I received a complimentary copy of both of these books. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
