The Girl from Spaceship Earth by Patricia Ravasio
The true story of a life intertwined with the utopian ideas of an American genius.
A mind-blowing two-day interview with iconic futurist Buckminster Fuller in 1982 Chicago leads an overeager advertising copywriter to promise she’ll share his urgent messages with the world. She has no idea what she is getting herself into, scarcely understanding what he is talking about.
When his dire predictions come true on America’s worst day (9/11) she must face up to her commitment, which morphs into a fiery obsession thanks to unsettling discoveries about Bucky’s archives further confirming the truth of his warnings. Her outsized passions threaten her relationships and her sanity as she grapples furiously to bring his ideas back into the world.
This heartrending karmic tell-all memoir is about climbing out of comfort zones to find your own voice and make a difference in the world. It also gives readers a charming introduction to the ideas of a long lost genius you’ve probably never heard of.

My Review
5 Stars
When Pat Field was eleven years old her father took her to a speaking engagement with Buckminster Fuller who pointed to her and said that women like her would change the world. Zip to 1982 and Pat sees and article about Buck in the local newspaper and decides she wants to interview him. But the interview is anything but normal.
Bucky tells Pat fantastic things about our world and how it is coming to an end. Pat tells Bucky that she will share his story but then he passes and life gets in the way and she forgets her promise until 9/11. Then she remembers and sets about sharing Bucky’s information.
I admit that I didn’t know who Buckminster Fuller was when I first picked up this book but I was interested in the story for the fact that he is telling Pat about how the world is going to end. This can be taken two ways, either he is a nut job or he is a genius and no one is going to listen to him. It turns out Bucky is a genius that has touched geodesic domes, Dymazino car, and so much more.
Bucky’s philosophy was to do more with less. He looked at the whole world and wanted to make it a better place. But with greed and closed mindedness he could see where the world was heading. He truly was an interesting person and it’s sad that he is not as well-known as other people.
This is a fascinating read and one that I truly recommend checking out.
